  • DIY JONI JUMPSUIT IN A STRIPED ORGANIC KNIT

HI DARLINGS! Well I am back at the gym and my stiff neck is all better, I even did pilates with my girlfriend yesterday. Today, however, is filled with busy work and some sewing deadlines. I am however super excited about this DIY JONI JUMPSUIT by FRIDAY PATTERN CO. I had not used a pdf pattern from them before but I loved this jumpsuit when I saw it on IG and had to make it. The back is especially great! This is number #2 of my #DIYDENIMBLUECOLLECTION and I love it! Pattern details, review and fabric info are below. If you have not checked out my previous posts on the #DIYDENIMBLUECOLLECTION you can follow HERE. I have already made most of the pieces for this collection already and next up is a new MCCALL JUMPSUIT PATTERN, lol what can I say I am a jumpsuit kinda girl. DIY JONI JUMPSUIT PATTERN INFO AND MODIFICATIONS This jumpsuit pdf pattern was super quick to print and tape together. I know so many people who don’t like printing and taping but honestly, it took me less than 10 minutes to do it. It sews up really quickly too which is a plus. I did make one change, I wanted to do a chevron pattern for the bodice so I added a seam line to the center front, positioned my pattern piece on the bias. I like the contrast between the verticle stripes and the chevron. I also did the chevron on the back. The DIY JONI JUMPSUIT can be purchased HERE. I will say that according to the finished garment measurements I cut the large bottom and medium top but after fitting I could have cut a medium bottom and small top so cut a size smaller especially since its designed for a knit. The fabric I decided on was an ORGANIC STRIPED KNIT from MICHAEL LEVINE, you can get it HERE. • DIY EXAGGERATED FLARE W/ PATTERN HACK VIDEO!

HI DARLINGS! Wooohoooo this is the beginning of my #DIYDENIMBLUECOLLECTION I am so in love with every piece I have made for this collection so far. This is look #1 and it includes a PATTERN HACK VIDEO for you to create them too. The pattern info is below but you can make the modification to any pant pattern as shown in the YOUTUBE VIDEO BELOW. If you are not SUBSCRIBED to my CHANNEL already head over so you don’t miss anything. Scroll down for pattern hack video, pics and outfit details including fabrics, patterns, and modifications. Table of Contents DIY EXAGGERATED FLARE PATTERN MODIFICATIONS DIY OFF THE SHOULDER TOP MODIFICATION PATTERN HACK VIDEO TUTORIAL STYLED IT DIY EXAGGERATED FLARE PATTERN MODIFICATIONS The video shows exactly what I did to modify my SIMPLICITY 8655 pants pattern. You can do the modification to any pant pattern but since I have a SEW-ALONG VIDEO for these already I figured I would just hack my own pattern. I used a 10 oz. White Denim I had in my stash. I suggest using at least 8 or 10 oz denim and at least 2% stretch. This is an easy hack! DIY OFF THE SHOULDER TOP MODIFICATION I love this top so much! I am already planning on making MCCALL’S 7686 again for my yellow collection. It sews up really fast and looks great. I added length to the sleeve because I like that look I also added an inch of length and created the casing for my elastic between layers instead of folding over and stitching down as instructed in the pattern instructions. The fabric I got at JOANN and later realized that its the same fabric as the pattern envelope, LOL! I don’t think I have ever done that before. PATTERN HACK VIDEO TUTORIAL Super easy pattern hack to create as big a flare or as little flare as you want! In this video, I show you how to take any pant pattern and create an exaggerated 1970’s flare. STYLED IT CELINE SUNNIES | H&M HOOPS | STEVE MADDEN WEDGES | NAME-PLATE NECKLACE SaveSave

  • NEW SIMPLICITY SUMMER PATTERN: DRESS WITH BUILT IN POWER MESH!

HI DARLINGS! Can we say va-va-voom on this new DRESS WITH BUILT IN POWER MESH!? Yes, we can! This is my second pattern for the summer and the best thing about it is the built-in “compression mesh”. I hate wearing Spanx and although sometimes I can get away without it I still very much hate panty lines, so I will wear a body smoother vs. a body shaper. This dress is lined with a lightweight power mesh to give support, create shape and smooth lines. You can choose the weight of the power mesh depending on how much support you want. I talked about this a bit in THIS YOUTUBE VIDEO where I showed you how to add it to your skirts. The SEW-ALONG VIDEO for this dress is up now on my YOUTUBE channel. The new SIMPLICITY PATTERNS start shipping to stores next week but you can get them ONLINE NOW! If you missed the first summer pattern, I posted on Wednesday you check it out HERE. NEW SIMPLICITY SUMMER PATTERN: DRESS WITH BUILT IN POWER MESH! This pattern along with the FRONT TIE TOP AND HIGH WAIST PANTS will start shipping to stores next week but as mentioned above you can get them ONLINE NOW. They should be online at SIMPLICITY.COM soon. The MODAL KNIT for the light pink dress is from MICHAEL LEVINE, and the velvet is from LA FINCH FABRICS they no longer have the pink colorway, but they do have a RED. The dress comes in two lengths and the peek a boo opening is optional, you could just close it all the way if you want. • MY DENIM AND BLUE COLLECTION PLAN & HOW I DECIDE

HI DARLINGS! If you missed my entire #DIYPINKCOLLECTION postings where have you been? Lol, you can catch up HERE if you missed it. I enjoyed sewing that color coordinated collection so much that I am doing it again! This time I’m doing a more casual #DIYDENIMBLUECOLLECTION and I have already picked my patterns and fabrics (mostly). I am new to this so I am not sure how much info I can offer but here is what I learned from my #DIYPINKCOLLECTION that could be helpful to you if you want to start sewing like this. TIPS FROM MY EXPERIENCE #1 Pick your patterns FIRST. In my pink collections I bought a bunch of pink fabrics, but then when I went to pick patterns, I was limited in what I could use because I had already bought my fabric and the weight and hand of the fabric wasn’t a great fit for some of the patterns I wanted to use. I suggest choosing the patterns first so you can pick fabrics based on what you plan to make, I started ass-backward, lol so this time around I picked patterns first…which was actually hard. #2 Picking patterns is not the easiest. I found I wanted to make so many things, so I had to narrow my collection by style and purpose. I wanted my pink collection to be a bit girly, more on the dressy side. For the #DIYDENIMBLUECOLLECTION I found myself picking patterns that were dressy and casual and then I was overwhelmed. I asked myself what my goal was and decided I wanted a more relaxed collection that I could wear with sneakers if I wanted but could also dress up with heels for a dressed up casual look. That REALLY HELPED ME. Once I had a clear idea of my purpose I started picking patterns. #3 I decided it would be easier to plan much like I do when I designed collections for retail. I went online an grabbed all the flat sketches I needed from the pattern sites. In Photoshop or Illustrator, you can place your flats in place and see how the overall look of the collection. You can see if it’s balanced or if you need to add something or remove something. I did this several times! I added patterns and took away patterns until I had the right mix of dresses, jumpsuits, tops, and bottoms. You can do this any way you want of course these are just the pieces I wanted. Having the ability to move your flats around is a big help vs. just staring at the pattern envelopes and trying to decide. You can get distracted by the styling on the pattern envelopes so looking at the flat sketches only will help you put your vision to work. #4 Pick fabrics from your stash first. I started buying fabrics for future collections already, so I keep swatches in my purse of what I have in my stash to build on (yellow and white collections coming soon, lol) I am trying to work with my stash first, but you can always go out an buy all new fabrics too. I had a lot of the blue/denim in my stash so that was pretty easy, I still need a small scale print but I have 95% of what I need to get started. I changed my mind a few times during the pink phase but I think it’s because I didn’t plan like I am doing now, BUT don’t be too strict, if you need to change something because it’s not working then change it. Okay, those are some of my tips, hope you are inspired to try it. DENIM AND BLUE COLLECTION PLAN Here is the plan so far. I think I am pretty sure on all the patterns but like I said above if during the process something doesn’t work I will make a change, for now, I think we are 98% sure about these. I am using a lot of PDF patterns, I did not plan it that way it’s just how it worked out so let me tell you what I picked. THE JONI is by FRIDAY PATTERN COMPANY I have never used any of their patterns before but from what I can see after printing and looking through the instructions it’s all very clear. I love the back especially. M7756 I love this pattern and as soon as I saw it, I knew it would be part of my denim and blue collection. MORGAN by CLOSET CASE PATTERNS You know I love Heather Lou and although I have my own jean pattern I have been wanting to make her MORGAN BOYFRIEND JEANS. S8601 This top is going to be made a lot, lol I already know it. I love the style and plan to make it in a few colors over the summer. S8558 VIEW A&B I have been waiting to make these pants again and the cropped top is perfect, I plan to add a little lengtht to the top. These pants are awesome and not just because I designed them, lol. M7686 I wanted to add a little off the shoulder. I am going tpo modfiy it a bit tho. TILLERY SKIRT by BLANK SLATE PATTERNS I love this denim skirt and when Melly sent me the pattern I was thrilled. It’s perfect. ELSIE by STYLE ARC is a great button up shirt and will look great in a dark navy with gold buttons. I olan to add length so I can wear it as a dress. JESSICA DRESS yep I plan to make it again with some modifications. Going strapless, shorter and adding a different pocket. If you didn’t get your FREE JESSICA PDF PATTERN click on THIS POST. THE FABRICS These may change a bit but as it stands right now, I have almost everything I need. The colors to some are slightly off because of the light but trust me they all work, lol) I will start posting this collection as I make it soon, I am hoping to start with the first two pieces today. Fingers crossed! SaveSaveSaveSav oreSaveSave

I also added a seam line so I could use my white shirting fabric for the bottom, I also used the white shirting for my collar and cuffs. The fabric is a pink and white stripe shirting from THE FABRIC STORE and the white I had in my stash. This is a great pattern that is going to get a lot of use from me. • DIY FLAMINGO OGEN CAMISOLE + WRAP SKIRT USING SIMPLICITY 8606

HI DARLINGS! I am so excited about my DIY flamingo Ogden camisole and skirt which are number 06 and 07 of my  #DIYPINKCOLLECTION. On Friday I will post my last pink look and then I can start my denim/blue collection. I already have several of the fabrics I plan to use, so I just need to pick my patterns for the collection and get started. I will be posting a video on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL recapping my pink collection on Saturday, and then I  will post another video next Wednesday talking about my denim/blue collection so make sure you are subscribed to my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. To see all the looks in my #DIYPINKCOLLECTION click HERE! For pattern and fabric info on today’s look scroll down. DIY FLAMINGO OGEN CAMISOLE PATTERN & MODIFICATIONS I have made this TRUE BIAS OGDEN CAMI so many times, lol I posted it already as part of my #DIYPINKCOLLECTION already HERE. I love this PDF pattern, and since I have made it as is a few times I wanted to switch it up, so I made shoulder ties instead of the straps. I love them like this! The flamingo fabric was in my stash, and I had used it before when I made THIS cardigan. I had just enough to make a cami. The fabric came from LOWPRICEFABRIC.COM a long time ago. DIY WRAP SKIRT SIMPLICITY PATTERN 8606 This skirt is awesome! The pattern was so easy to follow and sewed up quickly. The skirt is a wrap with flounce and although I was going to make the longer version I only had enough fabric for the shorter one. The skirt fabric is the same fabric I used to make this CAMI. • DIY PINK FAUX WRAP DRESS + VOGUE 1027

HI DARLINGS! This DIY pink faux wrap dress is so crazy comfy. The pattern is old and out of print but you can still probably find it on ebay or etsy. The pattern is VOGUE 1027 which I have made before HERE in a tie dye ITY fabric. This is number 05 of my #DIYPINKCOLLECTION I have another two pice look to post on Wednesday and my final pink look on Friday, then I am starting my denim/navy blue collection. Details on the pattern below. You can check out all my pink collection looks HERE. DIY PINK FAUX WRAP DRESS PATTERN & MODIFICATIONS I hate that this pattern is out of print but you can try to find it on ebay or even etsy. It is such a flattering dress and so comfortable to wear. The pattern comes together really quickly and required no modification for me. What I love most however are the pockets! I love pockets on dresses. The fabric is from LOWPRICEFABRIC.COM and was in the clearance section, I thinkI paid $5.00 a yard, lol so this is about a $15 dress, not bad huh? STYLED IT I kept it super simple, I wasn’t in a very flashy mood. I wore my gold dome earrings and leopard watch. The leopard shoes are a current fav although I have had them for years. I got them at STEVE MADDEN many moons ago. I have been wearing them a lot lately. This look is very much me, comfy & chic. • DIY PINK LINEN PANTS AND CAMI

HI DARLINGS! If you missed the start of my #DIYPINKCOLLECTION, you could see that first post HERE. This second look is my favorite so far. I love my DIY pink linen pants! I made them before HERE in a men’s suiting fabric. The patterns and fabric info are below. Since starting my pink collection, ideas I have been obsessed with color coordinating ideas that are dancing around in my head. I honestly did not think I would enjoy it this much. I love that it all looks so pretty to look at when I hang up piece by piece as I finish. I also really enjoy that my thread and serger thread doesn’t change, LOL no having to switch our threads to match whatever I am sewing next because it is all pink! What I think I am enjoying most is that I will have many coordinating options in my wardrobe. I was planning on doing a post, and maybe a mini-course on how I manage my wardrobe and what are must have’s for me, would you be interested in that? Okay enough about that, scroll down to see pics of my awesome DIY pink linen pants and DIY camisole and to read about my pattern, fabric and modifications. DIY PINK LINEN PANTS PATTERN & MODIFICATIONS I made the same modifications as previously posted about HERE. The pants pattern is my SIMPLICITY 8301 pattern, it has a SEW-ALONG VIDEO for you to watch if you have the pattern. If you want to make the pants without the bib just skip the bib part because the pants are fully finished before we attach the bib so its a super easy step to skip. The only modification I made was to slim the pant legs down starting from the hip line. My pink linen fabric is from THE FABRIC STORE they have the most amazing linens to choose from. DIY CAMISOLE PATTERN I love this camisole pattern by TRUE BIAS. It’s the perfect stash buster so when I have just a yard or so left of fabric I put it in a “future cami” basket. This is the second time I have made this camisole and trust me I plan to have a whole wardrobe full of them, lol. It comes together so quickly, and it’s a wardrobe staple. I made the first one in velvet which you can see HERE. My cami fabric is from JOANN FABRIC it’s just a poly from their special occasion section. STYLED IT I can’t tell you how much I love the pink shades combo in this look. I kept it all pretty simple with my favorite CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN nude shoes and some gold jewelry I picked up a while ago at H&M. I added the gold belt from TARGET which added so much to the look. I wore my Tom Ford sunnies which I can safely say are my all time favorite. • MY DIY EASTER DRESS + PINK COLLECTION IN FULL SWING

HI DARLINGS! I had such a great weekend that I was sad to see it end yesterday. I took the day “sort of” off because I just felt like I needed a day to get myself together, lol. I was going to post my DIY Easter dress yesterday but after I got back from my new gym and got roped into doing a session with a trainer I literally wobbled my ass home and damn near cried, LOL! I couldn’t do anything after that. I really need to get my body in better shape, I have gained close to 35lbs in almost two years, and there is no better way to face the changes than to be a fashion blogger who photographs every week, ha!! I just want to feel better and be in a bikini by my 42nd birthday in November. I went to church on Sunday in my DIY Easter dress with my mom and daughter and had a wonderful time, I then went home cooked dinner, and we just enjoyed ourselves.  Also thank you so much for the love you showed my mom on the blog last week if you missed my “SEWING FOR MOM” posts you can check them out HERE. My pictures are a bit further down. MY PINK COLLECTION & WHY Okay so I am obsessed with a blogger named EMILY HALLMAN, she sews the most amazing color-coordinated collections that I drool over. I have never been much of a planner when it comes to sewing cuz I just sew what I want but since following her I have been inspired to do a color collection or two. So far I am having the best time! It so fun to sew like this. I have made 6 pieces already including my DIY Easter dress below. Here a some of the fabrics I have been using for my collection. I am so thrilled to finish my pink collection which I will recap for you all in a video after I have posted them all but if you missed THIS YOUTUBE VIDEO you can see some of the fabrics I picked in the haul and I chat a bit about my obsession with Emily, lol. DIY EASTER DRESS PATTERN AND MODIFICATIONS Okay, this is an old pattern, and I have been meaning to make it for so long but never really got around to it. It’s VOGUE 1102 the pattern was designed for Broadcloth, Sateen and Lightweight Linen because they hold shape well. I, of course, wanted to use a pink textured chiffon, lol so I had to make a few changes. I picked a heavier weight pebble crepe for the lining and used my chiffon as the main fabric. I interfaced the entire bodice both front and back instead of just the back pieces as instructed. I made sure to line the skirt with the same fabric so add weight although the skirt portion in the pattern is not lined. I let my hem rest overnight before doing a narrow rolled hem. The pattern is not very hard at all and the back of it is the show stopper. The pattern comes together well and can be made from a ton of fabrics. I think I want to take the top and add pants to the bottom for a jumpsuit. The fabric has been in my stash for ages and I just couldn’t ever decide on what to make. STYLED IT I wore my red bottom pink mesh shoes which are the only CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN shoes I own that I can be in all day. His shoes are very much meant for standing and sitting, not walking, LOL! juts ask Oprah. I wore simple jewlery because the dress is so bold on its own. I do plan to style it again with a nude shoe and a pale pink leather jacket I have. • SEWING FOR MOM: KNIT FLORAL DRESS USING MCCALL 7561

HI DARLINGS! Mom did so great so this week showing off her looks. She is ending the week in this knit floral dress using MCCALL 7561 and this super soft jersey from JOANN FABRICS. She loves this dress so much, she said she feels pretty, and that is always a win. The pattern is beyond easy; it’s part of the McCall “Learn To Sew For Fun” Pattern. The only change I made was to add a neckband instead of just folding under and stitching as instructed in the pattern. I just measured the neckline minus 1″ and cut a 2″ wide piece of fabric. This fabric isn’t online as far I could see, but it may still be in store. I loved how soft it was and although I don’t usually buy fabric from Joann every now and then when I walk info thread or a zipper I will glance over at the fabric. • SEWING FOR MOM: GOLD STRIPED TUNIC USING M7596

HI DARLINGS! Mom is looking pretty fierce in this gold striped tunic I made her suing MCCALL 7596 in this yummy jersey. This is the easiest top to make, I decided to sew down the facing because I hate a loose facing, I sometimes will just use bias binding instead but the stitched down facing worked really well for this top, so I went with it. The fabric is so freaking old! I have had this piece of fabric in my stash for so many years that it felt great to finally use it for such a cool top. The sleeve split is adorable and adds some flare to the loose-fitting tunic. I can’t even remember where I bought this fabric. This MCCALL 7596 top was such a quick sew that I will be making her a few more, they are also great to throw on with jeans and sandals, sneaker or make the other views for a dress. I have had so much fun sewing for mom and plan to make it a more regular thing. If you have missed my previous posts about sewing for mom you can catch up HERE and HERE!
