  • MY NEW FAVORITE JEANS AND MORE FROM THE EV1 COLLECTION

HI DARLINGS! I don’t know about you but I am so ready for spring and to share my new everyday look from the new EV1 SPRING COLLECTION at WALMART. I have been traveling quite a bit this winter between LA and the East Coast and have had enough of cold weather, lol. We also have had the coldest month in the last ten years here in LA, it’s been as low as 27 degrees! I need some sunshine and warm weather asap. When I was asked to partner with WALMART to share the new ELLEN DEGENERES Spring collection for WALMART I was so excited, first of all, I am a huge fan and I think I can get Ellen to learn to sew with me, ha! That is a bucket list item for sure, but aside from that, I was blown away by how great her collection is and that it’s inspired by love and inclusivity which is why I picked this great TEE I am wearing. Let me tell you what I love because you guys know I am a t-shirt and jeans kinda gal. The INSPIRE LOVE TEE is super soft and has a great fit. The JEANS! Ok, I love a good amount of stretch in my denim and these are perfect. Not only are they so cool looking with the patchwork but they are so comfortable to wear. I bought a size 8 but with the stretch, I could have got a size 6 and been good too. Jeans is always I question I get asked about because I am curvy and sometimes it can be hard to find jeans that fit at the waist and hips, these take care of both. I have already ordered two more pairs, lol. The SNEAKERS are so classic and dope! I love this style and it always works so great with jeans, slacks, skirts, and dresses. The side stripes are so pretty and bright. I was so excited to get my hands on these.

  • DIY SLEEVELESS VELVET DRESS USING SIMPLICITY #1059

HI DARLINGS! I am gearing up for a trip to Denver and am not looking forward to the cold weather. This has been a crazy few weeks and I haven’t had a ton of time for personal sewing, I also lost my SEWJO for a while so I picked something that would be an easy sew but would look awesome. I made this pattern with sleeves HERE in green crushed velvet and it was so pretty! The pattern is vintage reprint by SIMPLICITY and it is such an easy pattern to sew up, details below. PATTERN INFO AND DETAILS PATTERN: SIMPLICITY 1059  This pattern is easy and fun and depending on the fabric can make a simple dress pattern look amazing. FABRIC: I got this PLEATED VELVET at MOOD and it is so pretty! I love the color. STYLE: I kept it simple with my GUCCI sunnies, some H&M earrings and STEVE MADDEN heels from several years ago.

  • DIY CORDUROY TRENCH AND SKIRT USING SIMPLICITY #8890 AND VOGUE #1247

HI DARLINGS! Happy Monday. I have been trying to do my best to keep up with everything but man oh man things are really hectic over here. I have a few deadlines, some really great new projects we are working on and planning our wedding. I have been meaning to record new episodes of BUSINESS SHET but time has gotten away from me. I am hoping to carve out time this week to record a few episodes. As far as sewing goes well… I have managed to squeeze in a few new pieces like this corduroy trench and skirt! My new SIMPLICITY SPRING PATTERNS are already a huge hit and they haven’t even arrived at all the stores yet, lol. Thank you so much! This CORDUROY JACKET is made from my latest pattern, I wanted to show it in a warmer weather fabric and since the color is so rich and I had a yard left I thought I would make a matching skirt. I will have SEW-ALONG VIDEOS for these very soon. PATTERN: SIMPLICITY #8890 (started shipping to stores) FABRIC: This fantastic corduroy is a wide wale and it has no stretch. I can’t for the life of me remember where I bought it but if I had to guess I would say it was from MINERVA CRAFTS but it was a while ago so I can’t be sure. STYLE: I kept it simple with big hoop earrings and my thigh high boots from STEVE MADDEN (similar ones HERE).

  • DIY DOUBLE BREASTED CARDIGAN AND JEANS

HI DARLINGS! It’s so funny how much red I have been posting lately since it’s almost Valentines day but I hadn’t planned it at all, lol. I made THIS cardigan a few weeks back by tracing off a double-breasted cardi I bought at Zara. I loved it so much I decided to make myself a pattern, if you missed that POST you can read it HERE. I love this cardigan!! I love the fabric and the style and how comfy it is and I plan to make it again as a dress. PATTERN AND OUTFIT DETAILS PATTERN: Rub off shown in THIS POST. FABRIC: I love this fabric so much! it’s so yummy and textured and although it looks like it’s a heavyweight fabric it is pretty light. you can find it HERE. STYLE: I love casual! I got these jeans a long time ago from MADEWELL (similar ones HERE), they are so comfy and I love the dark stripe.  The turtleneck is from ZARA and the green booties are from STEVE MADDEN and available HERE.

  • DIY METALLIC CHEVRON SKIRT USING VOGUE 1487

HI DARLINGS! We are in Philadelphia and freezing our asses off, LOL! These pics are making me wish I was back in LA but we are doing something awesome here so I can’t complain. We will be home soon enough and then back to the grind, we have so much going on this year and a wedding to finish planning. How’s the start of the year treating ya’ll? OUTFIT AND PATTERN DETAILS PATTERN: This is an OOP so I apologize, it’s DKNY VOGUE 1487 pattern. I knew when I bought this fabric that I was going to make this skirt so I went into my files and pulled it out. Its actually a really easy pattern to sew up and even with the chevron matching it came together quickly. I even got a perfect match at the center back zipper. FABRIC: This is a beautifully striped lame that is a pain in the ass to work with so I wrote a few tips below should you ever try your hand at sewing with it. I bought this beauty at MOOD FABRICS (couldn’t find it online) SWEATER: This CROPPED SWEATER is from TOPSHOP. I tried to find it but it wasn’t online. ACCESSORIES: My earrings are from H&M, my sunglasses are MICHAEL KORS and my pin which everyone always asks me about is from JOANN. The bracelet is so old I don’t remember where it’s from. SHOES: These are my barely there CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN heels. TIPS FOR WORKING WITH LAME Cut your pieces with a rotary cutter the sharper the cut the less initial fraying you are going to get. Serge all your pieces before you start sewing them together this will keep your fabric from becoming a pile of threads because this frays fast. Do not press with your iron directly on the fabric! I used my scrap of organza for my pressing and I use a very light touch. Be careful when handling, this will snag so be aware of pins and scissors near you. I got it snagged on my ring and had to recut that piece. Fully line your garment.

  • DIY ONE SHOULDER TOP USING SIMPLICITY 8693

HI DARLINGS! Norris and I are on our way to Philadelphia then NY today and let me tell you I am going to miss this lovely weather you see in today’s post, lol. We are working on a secret project that we are super excited about unfortunately part of the task is filming on the East coast (Buuuurrrr) I am excited to see some friends tho so that will make up for the cold weather. OUTFIT AND PATTERN DETAILS PATTERN: I love this SIMPLICITY 8693 top. The loose fit around the body makes it easy to wear and tuck or wear out. I also love the one shoulder although I decided I didn’t want the shoulder strap shown on the envelope. I also liked the cuffs loose so I didn’t do buttons or buttonholes. It’s a pretty quick sew too! FABRIC: I used a blue/white striped shirting and a white oxford cotton for the cuffs. JEANS: These are one of my favorite pairs from GAP, they are so comfy to wear and there is no gaping at the lower back. ACCESSORIES: My red beret is so cute! I picked it up at NORDSTROM a few weeks back and I also got a grey one. They are just so fun to wear and adds a great pop of color to my look. SHOES: These gold GUCCI heels are still a fav for me. They are easy to wear and just add such sparkle. They have the mid heel version HERE

  • DOUBLE BREASTED CARDIGAN KNOCK OFF + FLOATING POCKET TUTORIAL

HI DARLINGS! I thought I would do something different today and if you like it I will do more of this. I have a ZARA double-breasted sweater that I love and since I recently got some great sweater knits from MOOD FABRICS ( I posted the haul on my IG HERE) I decided I would rub off the sweater to make a pattern and show you some of the steps. I also then decided that I wanted to make “FLOATING POCKETS” Have you ever seen a tailored jacket or coat that has patch pockets but no visible topstitching or stitching and seams on the inside of the pocket! You wonder how did they attach that pocket? Well, I am gonna show you. The term is actually “BLUFF POCKET” but since it looks like its just floating on your jacket I call it floating pocket, lol. Another thing I thought I would share in this post is the inside of my sweater, I love finishing my garments but realized I never show that so I plan to share more often. My friend ERICA BUNKER and I started a new IG PAGE called SEW IT PRO where we will be sharing more advanced tips and techniques, books we love, other advanced sewists and more, go FOLLOW! HERE is a link to my fabric. Table of Contents RUBBING OFF MY ZARA SWEATER MY FLOATING POCKET AND HOW-TO THE FINISHED CARDIGAN THE INSIDE RUBBING OFF MY ZARA SWEATER This is my Zara sweater and I love it so much! I wanted to be able to make it in other fabrics so I created a pattern. MY FLOATING POCKET AND HOW-TO (click picture to enlarge) THE FINISHED CARDIGAN

  • DIY SILK KIMONO USING VOGUE 1610

HI DARLINGS! I had the most amazing time yesterday. I went wedding dress shopping with my friend Cristina and I couldn’t believe how beautiful everything was. If you follow me on IG you may have seen my appointment and some of the fun moments we had, I can’t wait until my wedding day I am going to look amazing! LOL. It’s so funny because everyone keeps asking me why I am not making my dress and although I understand why they ask I don’t want my wedding to feel like a project, I want to try on dresses, then design it but I don’t want to stress myself out beading and embellishing and sewing that beast of a dress. If I do make something it may be my reception dress but we will see. Ok, so on to this amazing VOGUE pattern! I love this Kimono and I plan to make it again in a bright color. It makes a great dress which is how I choose to wear it. I love that I can wear it open or obviously as a dress. It’s also such a quick sew. HI DARLINGS! Well, it’s 2019 and we are ready to go. This year is going to be even better than last year and we have so many great projects on the horizon. I had a little bit of time to sew during the holidays so I am excited to show you some of those makes. • DIY COAT USING VOGUE 1263

HI DARLINGS! Well, I think this is the last post on the blog until 2019, you guys know I shut things down and take a much-deserved break during the holidays. I may be posting a year-end video on my YOUTUBE and I will still be posting and sharing on IG but that is about it. I have so many things to get done for my wedding!!! Norris and I are so excited and since we are planning for June we don’t have a whole lot of time to get everything done, thank goodness I have so much help around me. Ok, let’s talk about my coat! This is an oldie but goodie and unfortunately, it’s out of print but you can still get it on Amazon. I made this coat years ago and loved it then so I when I started trying to sew up my stash I decided I would use this mystery fabric I picked up a while back at MICHAEL LEVINE. PATTERN INFO & MODIFCATIONS I cut an XS. The pattern isn’t all that difficult. There is one-step after you do the pocket lining where it tells you to turn the pocket lining to the inside press and topstitch and then the next instruction says to attach the pocket facing to the pocket lining but doesn’t tell you to pull the pocket lining back out after pressing and topstitching so a newbie may find that confusing. I think I am making it again but will be lining it.

  • DIY VELVET CARGO PANTS

HI DARLINGS! One of the reasons I love to sew is the ability to be inspired and make items I see. Sewing just expands my creativity and allows me to make and wear whatever I want! I saw a pair of cargo pants I fell in love with and decided I wanted to make them in velvet, so I did. I didn’t have a pattern for them so I just used my pants sloper and created the center drop crotch portion. Not an easy task when you are figuring it out as you’re going along, lol. Norris wanted to make them too so he made his out of a four-layered gauze fabric. You can see his pair HERE and the inspiration pants at the end of this post.
