- MY SATIN CREPE DRESS WITH EXAGGERATED SLEEVES USING M7998
HI DARLINGS! I feel like I was suppose to post this dress weeks ago after showing it on IG but I had not had time to get it photographed. I am obsessed with this dress, especially the sleeves. These are amazing sleeves and I plan to add them to a coat too! The pattern envelope for MCCALL 7998 doesn’t look great and I have seen many of you comment on that IG post that you passed on it because it didn’t look great but I knew it would look beautiful in the right fabric and proportion. PATTERN & FABRIC REVIEW This FABRIC is a SATIN CREPE from MOOD and it is delicious. I need to get it in another color too because it is a dream to sew with. MCCALL #7998 itself was actually pretty straight forward and as strange as the sleeves look they are not difficult to sew at all if you can set in a sleeve you are good to go.
- AMAZING FABRIC HAUL FROM MOOD FABRICS AND JOANN FABRICS
HI DARLINGS! I have made a fabric haul video of some really great pieces I got at JoAnn Fabric and Mood recently. Some of these are linked below since I couldn’t find all of them online. You can watch the video below and I also added a transcribed version of my video below. Hey Guys, Mimi g here, back with a fabric haul, I can’t wait to show you all the good stuff that I got. So it’s part Jo-Ann haul and part Mood haul and two of these fabrics are for my next simplicity patterns that I’m designing way into 2020 at this point. So I think these are my spring 2020 patterns for simplicity. So you got a ways before they come out, but I’m sewing now for those. So two of those are for that project. So you probably won’t see them for awhile, but I’m going to show you the fabrics that I got anyway, but I’m not telling you what they’re for because you’re going to have to wait. Okay, so let’s start with the mood haul. So this is an actual mood print. I didn’t realize that mood has like their own selection of mood fabrics that they designed. Table of Contents Mood Faces Fabric Mood Fabric Navy / Burgundy Striped Suiting Mood Fabric Red Stretch Double Faced Wool Crepe Mood Fabric Periwinkle/Beige Silk Iridescent Chiffon JoAnne Fabric Leopard Print Brocade JoAnne Fabric Geo Abstract Cream/Gold Brocade JoAnne Fabric Wide Wale Corduroy Mood Faces Fabric Crisp with a soft, gummy feel, this medium-weight wonder expresses a dull sheen across its digitally-printed facing. So when I was shopping online, I just happened to see that this was a mood fabric and I thought, oh that’s really cool. And what I love is all the faces. So it’s sort of abstract. I don’t know what is a bunch of faces. Okay. That’s what it is. It’s a stretch sateen, which is really great because there’s a dress as a form–fitting dress that I want to make and it’s going to be somewhat fitted to my body, hugging my body. And so I needed a little bit of a stretch. So when I saw this I just thought it was super interesting. Right? I mean it was just like abstract and really beautiful and I love sort of the colors. It’s like a light peach and a light tan or what that is. But I loved it. When I saw it I was like, this is really interesting and I think it’ll look really good made up into something. So that was the first one. Mood Fabric Navy / Burgundy Striped Suiting Wow—talk about luxury: Extending a soft hand and smiling with its brilliant face, these stripes effortlessly draw one in, duplicating vertically to the selvage. Then I am definitely making myself a Tuxedo dress. So I have been obsessed saving all these double-breasted Blazers slash dresses that I’ve been seeing. So I wonder and found myself some suiting that I liked. I wanted it to be a little on the men’s wear look. So I grabbed this one. It’s actually navy. And I guess Burgundy, Maroonish, whatever, I don’t know. And it has a tan stripe, so it’s kind of like, I guess it’s sort of like a pinstripe, I dunno. Anyway, it’s amazing. It was a little pricey. I will say that, but I plan to fully line in the garment and I’m going to keep it around for a very long time, which I know that you guys know that every season I basically dump my entire wardrobe. I’m going to keep it around for a very long time, which I know that you guys know, that every season I basically dump my entire wardrobe. I give it away to friends, I donate it to either shops or my mom donates a lot of it to charities that she works with. And there’s very few pieces that I actually keep that I make for myself. And it really only depends on one how expensive that damn fabric was ok, or two if I spent a lot of time on it or it’s something that I can’t easily replicate, right. If it’s a fabric that I got and I know I’ve just can’t go get more of it. Right. It’s not like a solid or something, then I will hold onto it if I really, really love it. So this will definitely be one of those pieces that I make and I keep for a really long time and it’s really nice. I mean this is nice suiting. So I’m surprised that I’m the Hubby didn’t try and take it from me. So, but, but if there’s any leftover best belive, your boy is going to be making something. Okay. It’s going to be some shorts and some, I don’t know how much he’s going to have left, but he’s going to figure it out. Mood Fabric Red Stretch Double Faced Wool Crepe With double the faces, it’s double the fun! We highly suggest checking out this Ralph Lauren Red Stretch Double Faced Wool Crepe. And then I bought some more suiting. Um in this beautiful red fabric. You guys know I love red. Red Looks Amazing on me and I love it. Now it’s a little heavier than I thought cause I ordered these online. So I was going based on what I thought it was gonna be. I don’t work for what I wanted to work, but it is a little heavier than I anticipated it being. So I can either still use it for what I intended on making. It’ll just have a little more structure. I, I was thinking of making a jumpsuit. It’s a new pattern by somebody I don’t remember, but I’ll, you’ll see it in my pattern hall, which I’ll post really soon. But if not, this would make a really good lightweight coat. And you guys know I’m in Cali so it doesn’t get super cold here. So I don’t necessarily need heavy heavy coats, but this would make a really nice, probably like a, like a dope ass trench in red. Like would that be nice? Like I, I think I just figured it out. The other two fabrics from mood are the two that I was telling you that I’m using for my upcoming simplicity patterns during spring of 2020. So like I said, you’re probably not going to see these actually made up for a while, but I want to show you what I got because they’re really beautiful. So this one is a silk Chiffon and it’s iridescent. So I don’t know if you guys can see that on camera or not, but it’s flipping gorgeous. Mood Fabric Periwinkle/Beige Silk Iridescent Chiffon A beautiful, flowy fabric that would make a great overlay. Like this thing is so good. I wish I could tell you, I really wish I could tell you what it was for. But I can’t, I can’t tell you. So you just got to use your imagination, but it’s amazing and I love it. And I think it’s gonna look so good on that pattern envelope. And then the other one is also a sheer fabric and it’s textured, so it’s sort of like a neon ish yellow and this is just, Oh my God. Like look at it. Right? It’s so pretty. I love this thing. And actually I don’t, I don’t know if this is, this could work for something other than like apparel. Like I could cover this and something else, overlay it and use it to cover furniture and it would be really nice. But that’s not what I’m using it for. I am using it for a garment and I just love it. love the texture. I love that it’s sheer. It has sort of like a little fuzzy edge thing going on. I don’t know, I just really loved it when I saw it because I know what that garment is in my head. I just, I can see it. I can see it made up and I know it’s going to amazing and you guys are gonna love it. The next haul is from Jo Ann Fabrics. These two I actually ordered online. I listened. I never ordered fabric online from Jo-Ann. Actually, I don’t buy fabric from Joanne that often unless I like don’t want to drive into downtown to go get fabric. Then if I’m like, usually it happens like this, me and Norris realized we need a zipper or we need some thread or buttons or something. So we drive to Jo-Ann, which is not far from the house. JoAnne Fabric Leopard Print Brocade And then I always go to the fabric section because who the hell goes to Joanne’s and you don’t go check out what is in the fabric section. Cause every now and then, every now and then they will surprise your ass. So these actually happened online because someone I follow on Instagram posted these two fabrics and I was like, Joanne’s what girl? But they didn’t have them at my local Jo Ann. So I went ahead and ordered them. This brocade right here, this leopard brocade is to die. I don’t know what I’m making. I always buy at least three yards. You guys asked me this all the time. How much yardage do you buy? I always buy at least a minimum three yards. Cause with that I can just about make anything. If I know I’m making a really long garment, like something way down to the floor, then I’ll go with four. But a good rule of thumb for myself is three yards I can make just about anything. So I ordered three yards of this. I don’t know. I don’t know if I want to make pants. I don’t know if I want to make a jam. I don’t know what I want, but I know his fire and I know it’s gonna be gorgeous. JoAnne Fabric Geo Abstract Cream/Gold Brocade The other one I got also because she posted it was this one. It’s also a brocade and what I love and you probably can’t see it, I’ll show you maybe in the picture is the gold little, I don’t know what shape this is. It’s something, it’s so cute. That’s what it is. It’s gold and cream. And for me, I always feel like anything sort of creamy winter white during the fall and the winter always looks really great and it’s gold. So it has gold and when to white, I mean it doesn’t get any better than that. The biggest highlight for me though, even though those are amazing, are the two corduroy that I found at Jo-Ann. It’s pretty heavy. So this would actually make a really beautiful coat. Like I think that’s probably where I want to go with this one is making a lightweight coat for here and also cause I travel, right. So if I’m going to New York or something then I can always obviously use a coat. The biggest highlight for me though, even though those are amazing, are the two corduroy that I found at Jo-Ann. First of all, finding good corduroy in a fabric store is hard. Okay. It just doesn’t like appear often. And when it does, it’s baby whale. So what baby whale means is the little stripes on the corduroy are really, really thin. Right? So it’s used a lot in kids’ garments and you could use it in adult garments, but it just doesn’t really like have the same [umph]. Right. And so I don’t usually buy it. JoAnne Fabric Wide Wale Corduroy I like wide whale corduroy. I want you to see lines. You know what I’m saying? So I, when I was, I’m in Jo-Ann and actually I didn’t even go for myself. We went because Norris needed corduroy for something and I was like well we can try Joanns and see what we got. So we went with low expectations but when we got there he went and looked and he was like, I didn’t find anything. And I was like, Oh okay. Well so I kept looking down the aisles and then Lo and behold in the denim section was this corduroy. It’s amazing. First of all, it’s wide. They had so many colors. They had like six colors. I think we got like four cause I got two colors and he got two colors. I got this mustard color and this dark teal color. And then he got brown and I don’t know what else he got. I kept looking down the aisles and then Lo and behold in the denim section was this corduroy. It’s amazing! But this is amazing. First of all. Okay. First of all, you see how wide this whale is. Do you see how wide this is? It’s amazing. It’s sort of a super retro. But on top of that, it has stretch. Do you know how hard it is? To find good corduroy. That is a wide whale that has stretch. I found a f****** Unicorn. Okay. That’s what, that’s just like Unicorn right here at Joann’s. I’ve posted it on the, on the Instagram and everybody went crazy over this. They might’ve sold out cause I said, I think I said half of America to Jo-Ann to go buy this corduroy. But that’s why it’s so good. I hope they still have it. If they do buy some and then email them and tell them wherever they got it to get some more. Okay. This is everything that I got. I hope you guys enjoyed it. You will see some of this made-up really soon, hopefully on the blog. So if you’re not following mimigstyle.com what the hell’s your problem? Follow me on Instagram @ MimiGStyle. I’ll talk to you guys later. Peace.
- CUTE JUMPSUIT WITH DIY OPTION
HI DARLINGS! It’s an OOTD kinda you guys. I have been a little busy so I haven’t had any time to sew, I have a few days blocked out on my calendar next to sew which makes me very happy. This little jumpsuit, however, is an add on from the WALMART sponsorship I did a few days ago. While shopping for that post I added this to my cart because it was so cute! I figured I could copy it and make it from another fabric and for $12 you can’t beat it. THE LOOK WANNA DIY IT? So this can easily be made with a few modifications to a pant pattern, you could use MCCALL 6515 and move the invisible zipper to the center back. I would cut it a size bigger than normal and then modify the waist to match the curve of the RTW one. You will not use the waistband and instead would create a facing. Add the straps and you are done!
- LOOKING LIKE A STAR IN MY FLEECE CREW NECK AND JOGGERS
HI DARLINGS! I partnered with Walmart to bring you this post. Ok you know I have started a new training regime that incorporates using my body weight and I am loving it, I also love it because it gives me a reason to buy more athleisure wear. I have picked up so many cute pieces from WALMART and this is one of them. They have really great women fashions as you can tell from my other WALMART posts but more than that it’s easy on the pocketbook especially for someone like me who loves to change it up. Since we are nearing fall I am picking up some great fitness looks to keep me warm. This set is from the EV1 collection and it’s so super cute! The START FLEECE CREWNECK is soft and fits great. The matching FLEECE JOGGER fits me like a glove, I ordered a medium because I wanted them to be slightly fitted. I liked them so much that I ordered a navy set too! and I can’t wait for it to get here. I know this will be great for my morning runs when it’s a little on the cool side. You guys also know that I love super casual wear that keeps me comfy but cute so I added my EV1 SNEAKERS which I wear a lot, these are not only comfortable but everyone always asks me where I got them. - DOUBLE BREASTED JACKET AND JEANS LOOK IDEA
HI DARLINGS! It’s an OOTD kinda day because I love these jeans, I love this blazer and I love these SHOES! I had some media interviews to do recently so I went shopping for some basics that sadly I have not had time to sew for myself. I wanted a black blazer because the one I made myself many years ago using my SIMPLICITY 1167 pattern from THIS POST is long gone. I think it may have been given away at some point. SHOP MY LOOK BELOW So while I was at ZARA looking around I found this great DOUBLE BREASTED JACKET. I then went over to MADEWELL because I am a huge fan of their JEANS and saw these great torn hem jeans that fit really well and they feel great. The SHOES!!! I got these SCHULTZ patent leather pumps at BLOOMINGDALES but they are ONLINE HERE. STEVE MADDEN has a really similar shoe HERE. I also love THESE from STEVE MADDEN.
- GETTING READY FOR BACK TO SCHOOL
HI DARLINGS! I partnered with WALMART to bring you this post. Every year around this time Imani hands me a long list of school supplies we need to buy and since I am usually running around all week trying to get things done I decided to make it easy on myself and order online at WALMART.COM We both love to buy school supplies, it’s almost nostalgic for me and since I am also a big notebook and pen fan I always manage to grab a few things for myself. WALMART is the best place to shop for all things back to school and they make it even easier to navigate with the “SHOP BY GRADE” feature. This filter makes it easy to grab things for my high schooler and for my middle schooler who I am shopping for today now that his teacher gave the class their supplies list. HER FAVORITE THINGS Imani loved coloring in her DIVIDERS, and the LUNCHBOX she picked out worked great, she isn’t a big fan of school lunches so she enjoyed taking her own snacks. We were both big fans of the JIF POWER UP BARS, omg they are delicious, LOL! I ate two. The BINDER and her REDI-TAG NOTES is great for keeping her organized and of course, we all love COMPOSITION NOTEBOOKS, they are the best. The PENS she picked out write smooth and dry fast, she was kind enough to give me the purple and orange pens (I told you I like school supplies, ha!) Her favorite thing however was her clear BACKPACK, I don’t know that I would want everyone to see what I carry in my purse but apparently it’s super dope, lol. Are you still shopping for back to school? If so, make shopping fun and easy and shop back to school at WALMART SHOP THE POST
- MY FAVORITE QUICK AND EASY KETO LUNCH
HI DARLINGS! I have been wanting to share so many of the yummy things I make for myself when I’m on a low carb kick. This is is the quickest and most delicious lunch and also a great way for me to get my good fats in. If you haven’t watched my video on Keto vs. Paleo and what has worked for me you can watch that below. I talk about why and how and what has been the best option for me. SHRIMP ZUCCHINI SALAD So first let me say that you can substitute the protein for anything else you want. You can season the chicken and cook same as I do for the shrimp (obviously chicken will take longer to cook) and it will taste just as yummy. INGREDIENTS Shrimp (or chicken) Roma Tomato Zucchini Red Onion Basil Lemon Olive Oil I only made one serving but since you can’t really mess this up you can choose however much of any ingredient listed you want to make one or two servings. I am seriously obsessed with practicing my knife skills since starting the culinary workshop so let’s admire my julienne onions please, lol! But seriously it makes a big difference when you have an ingredient cut in uneven dices or strips, you don’t want a chunk of onion in one bite, you know. I then sliced a tomato and some jalapeño and added it the bowl with the onions. I love basil so I added some basil chiffonade (that just means shredded or finely cut leaf) I roll the leaves up and then chop thinly. Okay now you are going to add half a lime juice or more if you want and add some olive oil! Now just let it sit and marinate while you season your protein and cut your zucchini. I used some chili powder, paprika, cayenne and some kosher salt to season my shrimp. I made sure to pat dry my shrimp because I don’t want to add moisture to my pan, that will just create steam and won’t brown my shrimp fast enough. I added some ghee to my hot cast iron and once the butter was hot I added my shrimp, I add it to a really hot pan because they cook quickly and I like a nice sear on my shrimp, once I get a bit of color I lower my heat and let them cook without moving them. Once they are almost cooked through I flip them to get color on the other side. Remove from pan and use all the flavor goodness to cook your zucchini. I hate mushy veggies so I only cook my zucchini for a few minutes and since I had so much flavor in my pan from the shrimp I did not add any more salt. Place your zucchini on the plate and then add shrimp and top with the tomato/onion mixture and drizzle with the olive oil and lime goodness in your bowl. That’s it you guys! Just sit back and enjoy. I love acid so I squeeze a bit more lime but that is up to you. If you make this please let me know if you enjoyed it.
- DIY KNIT POLKA DOT DRESS USING MCCALL 7967
HI DARLINGS! Let’s talk about how easy this great dress is to sew. It took me about an hour to sew up after cutting it out. I think I am going to start doing pattern reviews a bit more like I use to because I realize how much I rely on pattern reviews to see if I want to bother making it and/or if I there any things I need to watch out for which is so helpful to know about a pattern before you get started. PATTERN REVIEW This pattern is simple and really a breeze to sew, the gathering at the sleeve doesn’t take long at all and since you are just stitching your cuff on it makes it all pretty straight forward. The cutest feature of this MCCALL 7967 PATTERN aside from the sleeves of course is the front gather. When I posted this on INSTAGRAM there were a few comments asking if the neck was hard to do and it’s not. HERE IS A TIP The neckline on MCCALL 7967 is actually just a round neckline that you turn under and stitch and then using a piece of elastic you stitch it down to the CF to create the gathering. For me that method never gives me the amount of gathering I want so instead I make two narrow rows of basting stitches, I pull to gather and then tie off my thread, then I stitch the last to the back to secure. It always comes out much better. FABRIC The fabric is a wool/knit blend so its not super stretchy but stretch enough and hold shape and recover. I loved the polka dots and this green! I tried finding it on the MOOD FABRIC site but it wasn’t there.
- THE BEST DRESS EVER USING MCCALL 7974
HI DARLINGS! Can we just all agree that this dress is amazing? I will be making at least two more for sure. I knew as soon as I saw MCCALL 7974 that I was going to love it and then I found this great SILKY TIGER PRINT fabric at JOANN. The dress has great features like sleeve options, the waist yoke, the pockets, and deep neckline. I want one in a solid color for sure and maybe a silky one too. I wore this dress for an on-camera interview I did for LATV’s “Get It Girl” and I felt so pretty and comfortable which is always super important STYLE IT I wore my STEVE MADDEN HEELS and this amazing FREE PEOPLE NECKLACE. I also wore this vintage ring that I love so much and always gets a lot of attention. Get It Girl Hosts: Natasha, Artifex and Lis
- FLOWING EMBROIDERED DRESS WITH SLIP
HI DARLINGS! Today’s OOTD is this super cool embroidered dress from ZARA. On the SITE this dress looks awful, lol and looks grey but it’s actually a really pretty lilac color. I know I wear a ton of fitted dresses (which I love) but everyday life for me calls for loose-fitting, easy and comfortable clothing that I can still be cute in, lol. Aside from my favorite jeans and tee, this is my go-to look, sneakers and a dress. STYLED IT I kept it simple with these fun earrings I bought some time ago from H&M and my WILD FOX sunnies. I also wanted to wear sneakers and these platform CONVERSE are perfect so many looks.
- NEW MIMI G X SIMPLICITY FALL PATTERNS 1 OF 2
HI DARLINGS! I am so freaking excited about these NEW FALL PATTERNS which have started arriving in stores and should be up on the SIMPLICITY.COM website soon. I get excited about all my new patterns but these are amazing, if I do say so myself. As usual, I will share the other pattern tomorrow but today I am talking about this fantastic duster and pants. The wonderful thing about this NEW FALL PATTERN is that you can wear the jacket on its own or the pants on their own and get two completely different looks. I am currently working on filming the sew-along for these patterns which will be up soon. FABRIC I got the fabric from MOOD and I wish I could tell you that this beautiful print is available but sadly it’s not, I bought the last of it. You can see however that you can use a great bold print or even do a print and a solid or a color-blocked version as you see here.
