- DIY SILK CREPE TOP AND BIAS SKIRT
HI DARLINGS! How is it Thursday already? This week just flew by especially because I had so much going on this week. I wanted to post this DIY SILK CREPE top and skirt I made in December because I plan to wear it to an event I gotta go to this weekend. I love this look so much and it’s so versatile. I can wear the top with so many other pieces and the skirt too, I loved wearing it with a T-shirt and sneakers and a leather jacket. I will post that look too. I got this 4 PLY SILK CREPE fabric from MOOD FABRICS and although it was pricey it was worth every penny. The fabric is very luxurious and will last me for many years. The SKIRT pattern is MCCALLS #7931. I made and posted it once before in a purple silk fabric. I also did a SEW-ALONG VIDEO too if you want to watch and sew with me. The TOP is SIMPLICITY #8920 and it’s a great pattern! THE LOOK
- DIY LINED JACKET AND SKIRT IN BUFFALO PLAID USING MCCALL PATTERNS
HI DARLINGS! I know you guys have been waiting on this post since I sneaked a peek of it on IG back in December LOL! I did not photograph in December because I take time off every year so it has taken a minute to post this one. I used MCCALL #7481 for the JACKET and I used MCCALL #7983 for the skirt. So, unfortunately, the M7481 pattern is out of print but you can still fund it in stores or on Etsy. I love this pattern because it is such a basic shape that you can really have fun with it and add tons of details. It is fully lined and has a hood option too. The M7983 skirt pattern is a newer pattern and I loved using it. It has an exposed zipper, is fully lined and is a great fit with little modifications needed. Okay I know you guys have been asking about this fabric and I wish I could link to it but I bought it well over a year ago at MOOD FABRICS and I have searched high and low for it with no luck, there wasn’t much when I bought it so I don’t think it is available any longer. THE LOOK I wore my KNEE HIGH BOOTS from STEVE MADDEN and some old sunnies. My tank is from FREE PEOPLE
- SWEATER KNIT TURTLENECK DRESS USING MCALL #7999
HI DARLINGS! I hope you are having a wonderful day. I am currently traveling but wanted to share this easy turtleneck dress I made using MCCALL #7999 and a soft sweater knit that I found a long time ago at MICHAEL LEVINE in DTLA. This pattern is a no brainer and a really quick sew and since I had just enough of this fabric I wanted to make good use of it. I also made an extra-long fabric tie so I could do a double wrap around. THE LOOK Keep it simple, my signature pin, sunnies and these snakeskin heels from STEVE MADDEN.
- DIY WOOL COAT AND SNEAKERS FOR A CASUAL LOOK
HI DARLINGS! Well, you all loved my GREEN DIY WOOL COAT I posted a few days ago. I love it too! It is warm but not heavy and the details are great, I get asked about my coat every time I wear it. One of the things I hope to share more this year is how I wear my sewn garments in real life, lol. I try to get the most of my DIY pieces so I figure why not photograph them in different ways for you guys to see. You guys know that I say all the time that I am a jeans and T-shirt kinda girl and when you see me out chances are I have on jeans so here is my casual Friday look! If you missed my WATCH ME SEW video I did where I documented myself making this coat you can watch it HERE and if you missed my first post of the coat in a more dressed up look you can see that POST HERE. THE LOOK I wore my favorite MADEWELL JEANS, my new YEEZY’S and a plain white tee. These sunglasses are super old from WILDFOX. SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE TRIAL AT SEWITACADEMY.COM
- DIY TOP AND PANTS USING BURDA #6332 & SIMPLICITY #8693
HI DARLINGS! It’s Friday and I am so ready for the weekend. I have some filming to do on Saturday for our NEW SIMPLICITY PATTERNS, I owe you a sew-along so I will be getting that done. I also need to finish this green coat I have been working on. For now, however, let me talk about this DIY TOP AND PANTS. I talked about making a monochromatic look with these fabrics in my SEWING PLANS VIDEO. It is exactly what I wanted and I feel so polished in this look. The pants fabric was in my stash from THE FABRIC STORE and the silk fabric is from MOOD FABRICS. The pants are a favorite pants pattern for me, I have made them before HERE. They sew up quickly and I like the fit. The TOP I also made before and posted HERE, I love this top so much and knew it would look great in a silky fabric. Both pieces are pretty easy to sew up. THE LOOK
- OPEN BACK DRESS USING SIMPLICITY #9010
HI DARLINGS! Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone and now I am gearing up to do some Christmas shopping and closing out 2019. This year has been crazy, exciting and so much fun and I am looking forward to experiencing all that 2020 has in store. Hopefully, I will have more sewing time, lol! Ok, so I had not sewn in some time so when I got back to the studio I needed something I did not have to think about to get me warmed up, lol this SIMPLICITY #9010 PATTERN was just what I wanted. It is simple and fast to sew and pretty fail-proof. I did cut a size bigger on the bodice because I wanted more of a slouchy back opening and then just graded back at the waist. If you watched the video above you can get an idea of how simple this pattern is. WATCH ME SEW I made a quick little video with some behind the seams look at me creating this dress, I hope you enjoy watching it and make sure you are SUBSCRIBED to my CHANNEL. THE LOOK I wore my DIY dress with these old STEVE MADDEN booties and these super fun EARRINGS.

- MY DIY DRESS USING MCCALL #7838 MODIFIED
HI DARLINGS! I am going to keep this short because I am literally on my flight to Puerto Rico to start my birthday vacation and I need to get this done before I land so I can just relax and enjoy the next 14 days lol. This dress is what I wore on my LIVE SEGMENT on KTLA NEWS, I had a great time talking about SEWITACADEMY.COM and how people can learn to sew. FABRIC AND PATTERN I posted a snapshot of this a week or so ago and had to take proper pictures for you. This is a button-up shirt pattern (MCCALL’s #7838) that I extended to make a dress and added side pockets for the win! LOL. It is one of my favorite makes. The FABRIC is from MOOD and I am not sure if it is still online but I will double-check and will link it on my INSTAGRAM. THE FINISHED LOOK I kept it simple with nude heels to elongate my legs, my Gucci shades and and necklace from Zara a while back.
- DIY RED JUMPSUIT USING VOGUE #1645
HI DARLINGS! I love love LOVE this jumpsuit pattern by RACHEL COMEY for VOGUE PATTERNS. I will say that it is reminiscent of another pattern MCCALL put out during the summer with an overlay but this is much more tailored and has great details. VOGUE PATTERN #1645 PATTERN REVIEW This V1645 PATTERN has a ton of interesting details. The construction is definitely for the more advanced sewist, it’s not that it is hard to construct it’s just that if you don’t know the construction, in general, you may find these instructions a bit confusing. I loved the way they put this together although I would change the order of construction a bit for ease. The inside side seam zipper is great and hidden under the overlay which is clever and the pockets are also attached slightly different because one is on the actual side seam of the pant and the other is constructed on the overlay. The underarm detail was really cool too, it has a band that adds interest and then you finish the rest of the armhole with bias binding. The other thing I liked was how tailored it looks in the back with the darts and the belt that goes from one dart seam in the back around to the front. Then there is the really cool covered belt, this pattern is really cool. FABRIC I suggest a heavier weight fabric to get the proper look, you need weight to get that clean line drape on the overlay. I used a DOUBLE FACED WOOL CREPE from MOOD. You can see me chatting away about this fabric in my last FABRIC HAUL VIDEO FINISHED LOOK I wore my STEVE MADDEN heels (they are on sale HERE) some silver earrings and a red lip. The jumpsuit is plenty so I kept everything else pretty simple.

- DIY STRIPED BUTTON UP AND SILKY DRAWSTRING PANTS
HI DARLINGS! Today is another wonderful day because I have had time to sew and that always puts me in a good mood. I made this great top using MCCALL #8001 and another version of THESE pants from BURDA. Before I review the pattern let me catch you up on a few things. I was also working on my SPRING 2020 designs for SIMPLICITY and they are so great! I was working hard to get them finished and photographed, I wish I could show you now. The other things that had me really excited is that every year one my birthday Norris and I go away on a trip and this year I have decided to go back to Puerto Rico. I miss my dad so much and the last time we went was last year before my birthday cruise when we got engaged but we didn’t get to spend much time there. This time we are going for almost two weeks! I need to start sewing for that trip because I want to make a new swimsuit and a few dresses. Speaking of sewing, let’s talk about this outfit I am wearing. PATTERN REVIEWS This MCCALL #8001 top pattern is great, I enjoyed making it very much and I can already tell that I will be making a few more. Its comfortable and stylish and I loved that you can use prints and or stripes to create interest. The sewing is pretty straightforward and if you have made a button up before this will be no problem. The pants are BURDA #6770 and I already POSTED them HERE. It’s the same pants I used inn my ZEBRA TWO-PIECE look.
