- Blue Apron: Cooking With The Kids
Hi Darlings, I have always loved cooking and I really enjoy the family gathering and exchange of laughter in the kitchen My kids always end up sitting in the kitchen talking to e about their day while I cook. Recently they have begin asking to help in the kitchen so I thought it would be great to get them involved in the prepping of our family meals. They LOVE to help and are really great sous chefs. Since starting my love affair with Blue Apron it has really given us plenty of opportunities to create delicious, chef-designed recipes at home. Now the first 100 readers will get 2 FREE MEALS with their first order. Blue Apron delivers all the farm-fresh ingredients you need, right to your doorstep, in exactly the right proportions. I don’t need to make trips to the grocery store and there is no waste. Blue Apron is always adding new recipes and now they have a great Family Plan! The Family Plan is perfect for feeding a family of four and since my kids are still young they don’t really eat full servings so I could technically feed 5 or 6. With this plan you can opt to receive one or two deliveries per week and delivery consist of two meals that you serve family-style. The plan is $8.74 per meal, or $69.92 per eight serving delivery, which is more affordable than our trips to the grocery store where I end up buying random ingredients with no real idea of what I plan to make that week. Now I don’t have to wonder! The 2-Person Plan will set you up with one delivery a week, each with three meals for two. The price for this plan is $9.99 per meal, or $59.94 per six serving delivery. Of course shipping is always free for both plans! There is nothing more satisfying then spending time teaching your kids something you love to do. They get a great appreciation for the meal after they help to make it and serve it. Each menu is between 500-700 calories per person, which is great for me! And I love how many new recipes, techniques and ingredients we get to try and enjoy which keeps our dinners from ever being boring or repetitive. The kids paid such close attention and were really focusing on their assignments….it’s just so darn cute. They really liked how easy it is to read and understand the step-by-step recipe cards. They did a great job prepping and watching the sweet potatoes bake in the oven. These were delicious! The tarter sauce was the best we ever had and I found it so funny that as the kids were making it they kept eating it. The fish was so fresh and flaky! We cant wait to make this Fish & Sweet Potato Recipe again. If you have yet to experience the fabulousness of Blue Apron now is your chance. The first 100 readers will get 2 FREE meals with their first order by clicking HERE *Sponsored by Blue Apron* #RECIPES #BLUEAPRON #FOODIES #KIDS #family #COOKING

- What I Am Reading With Oyster
Hi Darlings, I don’t know about you guys but I LOVE to read. I have always been a big reader and have passed that on to my kids who also love to read but it seems over the last two years my time to read has been diminished greatly. During a visit with my oldest daughter she was filling me in on all these great books she had read and how much she enjoyed them, and I realized how excited it made me to see that she was still reading as much as she did when she was little. I then realized how much I miss that time with myself. I would often sit on the couch and read before bed or in the mornings after the kids were off to school so I decided to get a little bit of that back. Since doing it at home was hard and I ended up just working all day I decided I would use my travel time as a way to get some reading in. I have been traveling several times a month over the last 6 months so why not use that time to immerse myself in a good book…or two….or three. I came across Oyster (no not the food) lol a few weeks back and I have been hooked. Think Netflix for BOOKS! Oyster is a subscription based app that gives me unlimited access to ebooks for $9.95 a month. I get to read as much as I want on any of my devices and so can the rest of my family! Oyster is accessible on iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, Nook HD, and on the web PLUS enjoy 30 DAYS! FREE by downloading the app HERE Some of the coolest features are the ability to explore titles by genre and get recommendations based on what I like. I can create, share and save book lists. They have over one million books from classics to new releases, everything from New York Time’s Bestsellers and Oprah’s picks, to children’s titles and even DIY books! You also can browse Oyster’s Popular Titles I read so many different types of books because I truly believe that knowledge is power and I love to learn about all sorts of things. I tend to read self help books, business and marketing books and of course the occasional juicy novel! Here are some of the books I put on my reading list. I can’t wait to get through some of these on my next trip to Washington. When I enjoy a book I can easily share titles, quotes, and my reading activity to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Reposition Yourself -T.D. Jakes Woman Walks into a Bar – Rowan Colemsn Do Cool Sh*t – Miki Agrawal Make Every Second Count – Robert Bly Adornments – Myra Callan Brain on Fire– Susannah Calahan Reconstructing Amelia– Kimberly McCreight My kids have also been able to pick out the books they want to read including “A Kids Guide To Sewing” which makes me super happy, lol! - Verizon Girl’s Night Out Recap!
Hi Darlings, I had such a great time at Harlem Fashion Row for #VZGirlsNightOut with winner Ruth and her bestie Nikki (which happened to be Nikki from Nikki In The City) We were all so excited to meet and have a great time. The event itself was really nicely done, there were truly great pieces that made their way down he runway including my girl’s Kimberly Goldson, who I met in NY last year. We started off the day with a limo ride to a gorgeous Beverly Hills mansion and immediately hit it off, I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much ALL.DAY.LONG! The girls had the cutest signs provided by Verizon. We got some pics taken and mingled, we walked the room and I got to meet some other amazing people and designers. Of course there was a red carpet and a ton of photographers capturing every moment. As you can tell me and Ruth loved taking selfies. She was such a cool chick! The designers had some really great pieces but these three looks were my personal favorites! Thats suit was sharp. The sheer cover up was by Kimberly Goldson, Project Runway Season 9 Finalist (shown below). I wish I could have gotten a better pic but that sun was shining so hard it was hard to get a good image. I had such a pleasure meeting NorrisXThrash these guys are amazing. I think it is crucial for everyones personal happiness to express themselves and never do anything based on what others think and both Norris and Thrash do just that. After the event we headed off to a wonderful dinner in Santa Monica at The Penthouse with Larvetta and Brittni, Ruth, Nikki and myself. We talked the entire time and truly had an exchange of energy that will be with us always. The food was delicious and the view was stunning. Once I got back to the hotel I was beat! I pulled out my Sony Xperia Z2 so I could share my day via social media. Overall I could not have asked for a better day. Ruth and Nikki had a blast and that was worth every single second to me. I truly appreciate the love and amazing experience shown to women by Verizon and the L3 Eventeurs team. It was a great time and we had an amazing #VZGirlsNightOut #GirlsNight #Verizon #Winner

- DIY Simplicity Dress + Pattern Review S1325
Hi Darlings! I hope you had a wonderful start to your week. I am getting so excited about the conference and also about my new spring pattern release. I have worked so hard over the last few months on new projects and sites that I am over the moon with what we have in store for you this year. I also will be making a cross country tour teaching on the business of blogging and starting, running and branding a creative business so those cities will be posted mid March. On to my dress….what can I say I was feeling frisky, lol! I picked up this fabric at Michael Levine’s last month and I figured I would make Simplicity Pattern 1325. The FABRIC is perfect because it holds shape really nicely. It almost feels a little like a neoprene fabric. The dress was so cute that I though of making it with a mesh top using swimwear lining. My pattern review is below as well as fabric links and pattern info. Pattern Description: Simplicity 1325 Misses Dress + Sheer Top Fabric Used: Double Knit HERE (use code MIMI10 to save 10% off) / Sheer Top Fabric HERE Pattern Sizing: I cut the 6 Did it look like the drawing on the pattern once you were done sewing with it? Yep it did. Were the instructions easy to follow? This is a simple pattern to put together, there are just a few pieces and the fitting (if necessary) is easy to make. The tee is even easier and was a good fit. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the bodice a lot and the skirt is perfect for balance. I had this great floral print fabric for it so I went for it. I knew I wanted to use a sheer top and since the bodice was a pretty deep “V” I did add about 5/8″ to the front bringing in the “V” a bit more. Even with that I suggest using some fashion tape to avoid any “slips” LOL! Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added a bit to close the “V” some. Would you sew it again? Probably not, one of these is enough but I may use the bodice and skirt separately to alter other looks. #review #sewing #pattern #Simplicity #1325 #sheer #florals #DIY

- Verizon Girl’s Night Out Winner!
Hi Darlings, I am so excited to announce the winner of the Verizon Girl’s Night Out Weekend in Los Angeles with ME! for Harlem’s Fashion Row during Fashion Week, February 5th, 2015-February 7th, 2015. Please help me in congratulating Ruth Awam from Chicago, IL! I can’t wait to meet you Ruth. Isn’t she fabulous in that black and gold gown? GO RUTH! Part of what makes this campaign so much fun for me is that I get to talk about two things I love…Fashion and Function. I don’t know about you but having a fashionable case for my smartphone and tablet is a must, and I always have several different cases to match my looks. I have always been a gadget junkie and so having cool gear to protect those gadgets is always a priority for me. The gear becomes an accessory, because let’s be honest ladies, we notice the smartphone/tablet cases every time, and we can ALWAYS spot a Kate Spade from miles away! I own at least 5 or 6 Kate Spade Smartphone cases and sometimes I can’t decide which to use! Check out the Fashionista meets functionista with stylish gear from Verizon. Whether you need chic protection for your smartphone or tablet or a cool headset so you can enjoy bold sound on the go, Verizon has the gear to fit your life and lifestyle. Go with rugged for day and glitter for night (you know I love sparkles). Fashion is all around me and I include it not just in my tech gear but in everything I carry, and surround myself with. I always buy super cute notebooks, adorable pens, and even my post-it pads are floral! I love to express myself and pretty things make me happy. My two current favorite of all my Kate Spade cases is my Pink and Red Stripes! It’s so bold and I can rock it with so many looks and my eKat Leopard! If you are going to tracks your steps, distance, calories burned, active minutes and sleep you might as well do it fashionably and in Pink! or purple…or black…or PINK! The Fitbit Flex Wireless is not just super functional but totally fashionable. Life is too short to have boring gear! For all your needs Verizon has you covered.
- WANNA LEARN TO SEW?
Hi Darlings and Happy Friday!! Today I am taking a minute to answer questions I am continuously asked about learning to sew. I am so blessed to gain so many new followers daily from word of mouth and tagging on social media that this topic comes up daily. I thought I would update the “Wanna Sew” page with new info and links plus a special 48 HOUR SALE! ONLY $7.99 for ANY TUTORIAL (no code needed) If you have ever wanted to learn how to sew or have recently (or not recently) found me and now think you want to give sewing a try this post if for you! This post will give you everything you need to get started. So let’s begin with the Q&A… 1. CAN ANYONE LEARN TO SEW? YES, now granted some may learn faster than others and for some it may be something they didn’t even know they could do and become really great at BUT what I don’t like hearing is “I don’t know how to sew” having not even tried learning, lol and often I wonder if people realize that at one point I didn’t know how to sew EITHER. I was TERRIBLE when I started but I had a desire to learn it and so after several and I mean SEVERAL terrible, ill fitting, poorly made, hideous attempts I finally started to get the hang of it. BUT!!!!! I didn’t have a “Mimi G Style” when I was learning….meaning I didn’t have Step by Step Video Tutorials to sew along with, someone who taught in layman’s terms, and I didn’t have someone that I could see was using sewing for fashion as opposed to crafts. NOW!! you have the ability to learn using all of those things I didn’t have to help speed up the learning process but most importantly make it FUN! 2. DO YOU NEED A TON OF STUFF TO START? No not really. With any hobby you start to accumulate tools as you go along but initial to start you need a sewing machine a basic sewing kit and guidance! You need a BASIC SEWING KIT $9 along with the following: Scissors (one for fabric) HERE and use the one in the BASIC SEWING KIT for paper, Chalk Roller (my personal fav) or Marking Pen, Clear Ruler. 3. WHAT SEWING MACHINES DO YOU RECOMMEND? Sewing machines are not as expensive as some may think now and days and you certainly don’t need an expensive sewing machine to get started. My first machine when I started sewing again in my 20’s was a $160 Brother Machine which is still my number one recommendation for newbies. I started sewing on the Brother CS6000i and used it for 7 years and then for another 5 years by students I took on. I have a complete list of sewing machines I recommend for beginners HERE but this is My Top 5 List: Brother CS6000i $143.00 HERE (Sewing speed control, which is SUPER helpful, comes with a carrying case so you can take it to classes or travel with it, has easy threading guide, built it free arm sewing) Brother XR9500 $165 HERE (Computerized, has a sewing speed control which is SUPER helpful, has needle position option which is also a nice feature to have) Janome HD1000 $299 HERE (has a good automatic 4 step buttonhole maker, has stretch stitches for working with stretch fabrics, the body is made of cast aluminum, has a free arm for sewing cuffs, pant legs etc.) Janome 8077 $349 HERE (Computerized, Stop/Start button so you can sew without the presser foot, Easily adjust the stitch width or length by just pressing the plus or minus button, ONE step automatic buttonhole maker) Brother PC420PRW $359 HERE (850 stitches per minute, metal frame construction, with easy-to-use LED display for stitch selection, 294 built-in stitches with 10 styles of one-step auto-size buttonholes and 3 lettering styles, easy threading, built in thread cutter, adjustable sewing speed control, 11 presser feet including a non-stick foot for working with leather, plastics etc) You need a BASIC SEWING KIT $9 along with the following: Scissors (one for fabric) HERE and use the one in the BASIC SEWING KIT for paper, Chalk Roller (my personal fav) or Marking Pen, Clear Ruler. 4. IS A SERGER NECESSARY? No, not to start with. A serger is great for sewing knits and finishing off your raw seams and hem lines because it gives you a clean and professional look but it’s not something you have to have to start sewing. You can use the zig zag stitch on your sewing machine to finish off the raw edges. If you do want one HERE and HERE are a few I think are great. 5. WHAT PROJECTS DO I START WITH? There are a ton of great beginner projects and if you want to make pillows and aprons you can find those on youtube BUT if you want to learn to sew wearable garments then you want to start with some of my free beginner projects. Below is a list of “START HERE” projects. FREE Sewing 101 “Start Here” Videos: (these are pretty old and I am going to be updating them soon but they are VERY good to start with and understand the basics) Class Intro, Class One, Class Two, Class Three, Class Four Part #1, Class Four Part #2, Class Four Part #3, Class Four Part #4 I also have GREAT Beginner Sewing Tutorials where I walk you though every single step from start to finish so it seems like I am in the room with you. Here are some of the most popular for Newbies: Mermaid Maxi, Strapless Jumper, Off Shoulder Maxi Dress, T-shirt Maxi, Fall Dress after those I recommend the Cocoon Sweater, Regal maxi Skirt, Double Peplum, Front Slit Maxi Dress, Baddie Skirt. Mimi G Sewing Patterns are available HERE and also come with step by step videos sew-alongs so you can navigate the paper pattern and sew successfully! 6. MUST HAVE BOOKS? I love reading so here is a short list of some of my favorite books to help you learn fitting and construction: Fit For Real People Fast Fit The Perfect Fit Singer Complete Photo Guide 7. OTHER RESOURCES? The internet has a wealth of knowledge and if you want to learn something there should be nothing standing in your way. I am fan of a site called Pattern Review. Pattern Review is a great place for anyone who sews because if you have ever wondered about a sewing pattern and wanted to see what others who have made that pattern think, you can log onto PR, and search for pattern reviews. Now you can get an idea of what others thought, any modifications they ended up making, and you get to see what it looked like when finished. If there are any key elements they thought to share you will find it in the reviews. I am big fan of YouTube, there are a ton of channels to surf through including MINE which hosts monthly FREE sew-alongs as part of my collaboration with Michael Levine Fabrics. 8. WHERE DO I BUY FABRICS? Fabric Shopping is another scary thing for newbies so I often suggest buying fabrics I link to in my posts and tutorials and most of the time I am linking to Michael Levine Fabrics who is a huge supporter of Mimi G Style and gives my readers 10% OFF their entire purchase! Use code “MIMI10” at checkout. I also want to mention before I leave you that there will be a SUPER FLIPPIN AMAZING Sewing Club that I am working on and will be opening soon so stay tuned! Hope this info helps you get started and remember #SEWINGISSEXY
