The pattern is my SIMPLICITY #8994 jacket with a length modifcation. I had some leftover rib knit that I wanted to use so I extended the coat and made the rib knit much wider. THE FABRIC The fabric is our ASPEN BOUCLE which you can find HERE on MELANATED FABRIC we also have it in PLUM and CINNAMON THE LOOK

  • DIY ZEBRA PRINT DRESS USING VOGUE PATTERN #1672

HI DARLINGS! Happy Friday. Today I am rocking my latest mask, its been a while since I have made something and photographed it within days of each other. I needed a quick and easy make and I have had VOGUE #1672 on my list of things to sew. It is fully lined but it is still pretty easy to cut and sew dress, even for a Vogue pattern. It is easy to fit and the skirt drapes beautifully. THE FABRIC I used the OLIVIA TENCEL from MELANATED FABRICS but there are so many WOVEN PRINTS that would work for this dress. Check our inventory to see what may inspire you. THE LOOK

  • DIY SIDE CUT OUT DRESS USING MCCALLS #8175

HI DARLINGS! I have been MIA from the blog for a while. There has been a lot going on recently and so I haven’t had much time to create. I took a breather over the past week to sew a dress I have had my eye on, McCalls #8175 which half the sewing community has made already, LOL! PATTERN THOUGHTS This is a relatively easy pattern, the fitting is easy because you can just take in the side seams if you need to. I wasn’t sure if I would need to do my standard sway back adjustment but the skirt sits in the perfect spot so I didn’t need to do anything. I ended up taking the side seam in a bit at the waist and on the bodice about 1/2′ for a snug fit but aside from that it was pretty straight forward. I also decided to use to gold buttons instead of the hook and eye. FABRIC CHOICE My fabric is of course from MELANATED FABRICS and it is gorgeous! This is our PALM LEAF PRINT, I used the Pink and Olive colorway but we also have it in a RUST & MINT colorway. THE LOOK

  • RIB-KNIT DRESS USING THE LOLA TANK PATTERN

HI DARLINGS! I love this rib-knit dress, it is amazing. I recently had some time to sew but needed something quick and easy that I could make in a few hours. I had purchased the LOLA TANK rib-knit dress pattern a while ago but just had not ever printed and taped it together so over the weekend I took it out and got started. It was just what I wanted quick, easy, and fabulous. I love this pattern! RIB KNIT DRESS PATTERN REVIEW This is a very nicely drafted pattern. It’s only a few pieces and once you cut the front, back, and bands you are pretty set to go. I sewed my dress using my serger and only end up taking in a bit more at the waist, that was the only adjustment I needed to make. THE RIB-KNT FABRIC I made this using a black RIB KNIT we had in stock at MELANATEDFABRICS.COM we no longer have the black but do have it in other colorways. Currently, we have a lovely blue, cream, wine, and grey that would be perfect for this rib-knit dress. THE LOOK

  • GORGEOUS POPLIN PRINT DRESS FOR DAYWEAR

HI DARLINGS! This gorgeous poplin print dress was a winner when I made it the first time and it’s still a hit now. This is McCalls 7974 and I love the fit and style of this dress. The fabric is from our shop MELANATEDFABRICS.COM and it is a beautiful RAYON PRINT that we had in two colorways but the blue one has since sold out. I was really tempted to make the same sleeve again because they are just so fun and ad a lot to the dress but I decided to make the longer view instead which has bias binding finish. GORGEOUS POPLIN PRINT DRESS PATTERN REVIEW This pattern is not very complicated but there are a few things to keep in mind. You want to make sure to fit the bodice as you are making it so that you can make adjustments as you go. The midriff pattern pieces make this very flattering but could be a little tricky when looking at the illustration. Just make sure to align your notches as you pin because they will be a big help. Once you are done with the bodice the rest of the dress comes together very quickly. Depending on the sleeve you choose you can make this rather quickly. THE POPLIN PRINT FABRIC I love this print so much, it is bold and bright. I want to make one in a solid fabric because I think it is such a flattering dress to wear. Maybe a silky fabric would make this evening wear appropriate! STYLING THIS GORGEOUS POPLIN PRINT DRESS I kept things simple with my nude heels and some bright orange sunglasses. I love these gold layered necklaces so much. I also think you could wear this with a denim jacket and some converse or even with some raw hem cropped jeans. I might try to photograph this dress in a variety of looks because it seems from my comments on Instagram that you guys like seeing the variety.

  • GREATEST LINEN DRESS EVER USING NEW LOOK #6654

HI DARLINGS! I promise you this is the greatest linen dress ever, and I made it using New Look 6654. First, let me just say that this dress will be worn a lot and it has already made several appearances including a recent one on my trip to New York. If you missed my VLOG EPISODE you can check it out HERE. THE PATTERN The pattern is easy to make, It has a front and back and lower flounce if you choose, a sleeve or make it sleeveless and pockets. Obviously, you got a collar and collar band and the tie. You gotta love a pattern with minimal pattern pieces that come together easily. T make my linen dress I cut the 14 for myself and had to make no adjustments as I was sewing, that is always nice! From start to finish I think it took maybe 3 hours and that is including the cutting of the pattern and fabric. THE LINEN DRESS FABRIC This amazing fabric is our BIZET LINEN. I can’t tell you enough how wonderful this fabric is and although it sounds strange the fabric has a feeling of being used and worn and washed often, lol. This linen dress feels like I have had it in my closet for years. We love this viscose linen blend! Unlike crisp hand linens, this lightweight linen blend is very soft with a slub-like texture. It’s breathable, with a moderate drape, and perfect for many garments like lightweight jackets, dresses, tops, and pants. We have three colorways, the Natural which is what I made my linen dress from, an olive, and a coffee color. You can find them HERE THE LOOK Ok, I will say that I have worn this dress now three times and each time I wore it differently. I wore it the first time without the belt, White sneakers, My LVbag sunnies, and layered necklaces, you can probably see that look a bit in my VLOG VIDEO. The second time I wore it I had on my Dr. Martens, belted and baseball cap and then of course the way you see it now. What I love most is that this is a great transitional dress that I can wear with a denim jacket, moto jacket, and even with a chunky cardigan.

  • DIY FAUX LEATHER SKIRT USING MCCALL’S #8149

HI DARLINGS! This DIY faux leather skirt was a labor of love, lol. I have sewn MANY faux leather garments and most of the time with the right tools and knowledge it is easy peasy to sew up. We covered tips and tricks to sewing with faux leathers in this month’s SEW IT ACADEMY COURSE, as a matter of fact. Sometimes however the faux leather is just uncooperative, LOL! I made THIS dress from the same faux leather in black and had no issues but this burgundy color was playing hard to get, lol. Norris made some pants with the same yardage and had the same issues. It was really sticky and no matter what we did it just wanted to be difficult. I finished the skirt and of course pulled out every trick in my arsenal to get it finished but it’s good to know that sometimes tricky fabrics can take time and patience to work with and they all react differently. I love the skirt, it’s really great ad the pattern is fantastic, it’s the new MCCALL #8149 which will be a TNT for sure. THE LOOK
