  • THRIFT STORE FIND! DVF DRESS

HI DARLINGS! I am back from Kansas and it was so awesome, I will be posting pics tomorrow and sharing some of the things I talked about too. I was so happy to be returning to 74-degree weather! So now that I am back I need to get everyone in gear for the conference since we are only 5 short months away. Just before leaving town I walked by this vintage/thrift shop in downtown and as soon as I walked in this green dress caught my eye. It is brand new or at least looks like it is so I grabbed it quickly, then realized that it was a DVF!!! I must have like a detector built into my eyeballs or something because this is the 3rd secondhand DVF dress I have found in the last few months. I only paid $69 for it and it’s fully lined too. #winning I pair it with some tights and my leopard open toe shoes. My sunnies are from Dolce and Gabbana. I wanted to keep the look simple and classic. I am partnering with ThredUP again next month and I can’t wait to see what I find there. Until tomorrow….I leave you the pics.

  • FALL STRIPED SWEATER + PLEATED SKIRT

HI DARLINGS! This #OOTD is so fabulous. I bought this sweater during the holidays at J.CREW and the skirt was a recent purchase at ZARA. I love color and this sweater just spoke to me, when I found the skirt it was a match made in heaven. My shoes are from STEVE MADDEN and my Sunnies are LOUIS VUITTON. I am headed to Kansas City to host an event for JCPenney and although I am not looking forward to the cold I am totally excited to host. If you are in the area come say hello (flyer at the end of the post)

  • BEST EDUCATION OPTIONS FOR YOUR FAMILY

HI DARLINGS! I don’t know if you are aware but January 22-28th is NSCW (National School Choice Week) for me this has a special significance because if you have been following the blog since the beginning you probably recall me writing about the different choices I had to make for my kid’s schooling. NSCW shines a spotlight on the many different types of effective education options available. From traditional public schools to charter schools, online academies, private schools, and homeschooling. They bring light to why it’s key for families to participate and learn more about their options. Traditional school although great for many isn’t always the perfect choice for your family and having a place to go learn about the many options can be life changing. My kids have all had different types of schooling at some point. For Chastidy (my oldest) she didn’t enjoy traditional high school, she was shy and had trouble adjusting and I knew her well enough to know that she needed an option. After her second freshman semester, her grades were not good and she had been withdrawing a bit. I had a neighbor who had home-schooled her children through a really great virtual public school that is provided by the Los Angeles Unified School District so we thought I would give it a shot. NSCW helpful. You can read more info on their resources for parents page HERE *Sponsored by NSCW

  • DIY FULLY LINED WOOL CARDIGAN

HI DARLINGS! Okay this DIY is special because it was my very first pattern for SIMPLICITY and I gotta say I still love this pattern. The pattern for this cardi is not lined, it just has a facing but I had this great flamingo lining that I was dying to use so I just created the lining. I did a post a while back on how to create a lining when the pattern doesn’t have one, you can read it HERE. Ever since I started teaching my honey to sew he has been looking for patterns but since sewing patterns for men are few and far in between we took a few of my patterns and modified them for men…this cardi pattern for example which we made at the same time… you can read his post HERE. • I CHALLENGE YOU!

HI DARLINGS! I told you last week that I don’t necessarily do “New Year Resolutions” but what I do focus on are short term goals that I set at the start of the year without having to stress myself out trying to make entire life changes on Jan 1st. OLD NAVY has been a huge motivator for me because aside from getting the work done at the gym or at home I NEED to look and feel great while I am doing it and with OLD NAVY I always have the right look no matter what I am doing. Aside from the affordability OLD NAVY’s activewear is fantastic, holds up great and are always full of fun prints and bright colors. I am obsessed with their compression tights and these soft and fashionable joggers. I also found a great coordinating cardi! One of the goals I set last year was to get fit and STAY FIT… that is the key. So I am pushing myself even further and asking you to join me! Find something fun to do outside of the normal “gym” workouts like jumping on the trampoline when the kids are at school, lol. Just get moving and stay focused! • MY DAY WITH MADALYNNE + A LOOK AT THE STUDIO

HI DARLINGS! Our January course for SEW IT ACADEMY publishes tomorrow and I am so excited. We have spent the last 8 months learning a ton of techniques, basic drafting, have made several garments and have had a great time doing it. Since 2017 has a lot more intensive classes I thought it would be so fun to shake things up a bit and have a little fun making lacey things with MADALYNNE or MADALYNNE.COM Maddie is our first guest instructor in the SEW IT ACADEMY she is also a fellow SIMPLICITY licensee. She is our first but won’t be our last, we have a lot of great things planned for 2017. We had a great time filming her and even learning from her which is always a plus for me. She was also amazingly cool so I asked her to teach at this year’s Annual Conference (registration and details for the conference post soon) If you want to learn to sew or have a friend who wants to learn to sew make sure to sign up for SEW IT ACADEMY! A special discount will be given to all students of SEW IT ACADEMY so they can purchase any of MADALYNNE’S patterns.
