  • Top 5 Tips for Flawless Sewing & Styling the Versatile Knit Jumpsuit

In the world of fashion, versatility is key. That's where knit fabrics and jumpsuits come into play—offering comfort, style, and endless possibilities for the fashion-forward individual. Whether you're a seasoned seamstress or just starting out, sewing with knit fabric can be a game-changer in your wardrobe endeavors. And when it comes to one-piece wonders, jumpsuits are the epitome of effortless style that can easily be dressed up or down for any occasion. This out-of-print pattern remains online; this Vogue #9116 is a favorite. Check out Etsy or Ebay. Top 5 Tips for Flawless Sewing & Styling the Versatile Let's dive into the top five tips for sewing with knit fabric and explore how jumpsuits can elevate your fashion game. Tip 1: Use the Right Needle and Stitch Choosing the correct needle and stitch is crucial when working with knit fabrics. Opt for a ballpoint or stretch needle to prevent snags and runs in the fabric. Additionally, consider using a narrow zigzag stitch or a serger to allow the fabric to stretch without popping the seams. This will ensure your garment retains its shape and durability through wear and wash. Tip 2: Pre-Wash Your Fabric Before cutting and sewing your knit fabric, pre-wash it to prevent any unwanted shrinkage or distortion after the first wash. This simple step can save you from potential disasters and ensure your finished garment maintains its original fit and look. Tip 3: Invest in Quality Thread Quality thread is a must-have when sewing with knit fabrics. Opt for polyester or cotton-wrapped polyester threads that offer both strength and flexibility. These threads are less likely to break during the sewing process and will provide a professional finish to your creations. Tip 4: Handle with Care Knit fabrics can be delicate, so handle them carefully throughout the sewing process. To prevent distortion, avoid stretching the fabric while cutting or sewing. Use clips or pins strategically to secure seams without leaving visible marks. Patience and attention to detail are key when working with these unique textiles. Tip 5: Experiment with Silhouettes Now that you've mastered the art of sewing with knit fabrics, it's time to unleash your creativity with jumpsuits. Jumpsuits are the versatile powerhouse of any wardrobe, offering endless styling options. Pair a fitted jumpsuit with heels for a night out or layer a relaxed jumpsuit with a denim jacket for a casual daytime look. The key is to experiment with different silhouettes to find what best suits your body shape and personal style. The Perfect Styling Piece: Jumpsuits Jumpsuits are the go-to garment for those seeking a stylish one-piece solution. From sleek, tailored styles to flowy bohemian designs, jumpsuits cater to every taste and occasion. Dress it up with statement accessories and heels for a sophisticated look, or keep it casual with sneakers and a crossbody bag. The versatility of jumpsuits makes them a must-have in every fashion enthusiast's wardrobe. Remember, mastering knit fabric sewing techniques and styling jumpsuits is a journey. Practice makes perfect, so don't fear experimenting and pushing your creative boundaries. With these top tips in mind, you're well on your way to creating flawless knit fabric pieces and effortlessly styling the versatile jumpsuit for any occasion.

  • DIY Denim Trench Coat Using Simplicity #9389

Hi, Darlings! I was gearing up to take a break until after Christmas but I got this huge burst of sewjo and so I have been sewing a lot. This DIY Denim Trench Coat Using Simplicity #9389 is a big hit already on Instagram, lol. I love this jacket so much. It was certainly a labor of love because if you have ever worked with denim and topstitching you know it can be labor intensive. I was inspired by a denim jacket I saw on Pinterest so I grabbed some fabric from Melanatedfabrics.com and got to work. Pattern and fabric details are below. FABRIC USED for my DIY Denim Trench Coat This is the DENIM BLUE from Melanated Fabrics and it is beautiful. 10 oz denim and 100% cotton. Make sure to wash your denim before cutting to avoid shrinking after the fact. PATTERN USED This is one of the patterns that my hubby designed for my Mens patterns with Simplicity and it is so good. I used the size 40 for an oversized look without it being too big. The pattern is currently on sale at simplicity.com for $5.99. CHANGES I MADE I added a pleat to the back vent, made the collar wider by 1/2", and I also squared off and lengthened the storm flap. I made the epaulettes wider too. The ties at the sleeves were great as is but I wanted them long and to wrap around my wrist so I made them a bit wider and longer.

  • The Coziest DIY Look!

Hi Darlings! I made the coziest DIY look and I am in love. The skirt is a Simplicity #9757 pattern and the sweatshirt is a new Simplicity pattern by Norris which will be in stores soon. It is a unisex raglan sleeve sweatshirt pattern in two lengths and I love it! I used a medium weight knit with such a soft hand that I grabbed at Joann a while back. The skirt is such an easy sew! I wanted a wider hem so I added 1" to the length and I shortened the side slit, didn't want it going up so high. The waist is elastic so it's a quick and easy project. I wore it with my DIY sneakers which I shared on INSTAGRAM. Then I decided to dress it up a bit with my favorite Gucci sandals and YSL bag. The Coziest DIY Look! xoxo Mimi G
