DIY Denim Trench Coat Using Simplicity #9389
Hi, Darlings! I was gearing up to take a break until after Christmas but I got this huge burst of sewjo and so I have been sewing a lot. This DIY Denim Trench Coat Using Simplicity #9389 is a big hit already on Instagram, lol. I love this jacket so much. It was certainly a labor of love because if you have ever worked with denim and topstitching you know it can be labor intensive. I was inspired by a denim jacket I saw on Pinterest so I grabbed some fabric from Melanatedfabrics.com and got to work. Pattern and fabric details are below.
FABRIC USED for my DIY Denim Trench Coat
This is the DENIM BLUE from Melanated Fabrics and it is beautiful. 10 oz denim and 100% cotton. Make sure to wash your denim before cutting to avoid shrinking after the fact.
PATTERN USED
This is one of the patterns that my hubby designed for my Mens patterns with Simplicity and it is so good. I used the size 40 for an oversized look without it being too big. The pattern is currently on sale at simplicity.com for $5.99.
CHANGES I MADE
I added a pleat to the back vent, made the collar wider by 1/2", and I also squared off and lengthened the storm flap. I made the epaulettes wider too. The ties at the sleeves were great as is but I wanted them long and to wrap around my wrist so I made them a bit wider and longer.
