- DIY STRIPED JUMPSUIT USING BUTTERICK #6522
HI DARLINGS! I hope you guys are having a fantastic week so far. I am sitting here typing this post and feeling so blessed. I have had such a great start to the year and I can’t wait to share them with you. I am also really glad that I took the time to sew in December because I have had little time to sew outside of SEW IT ACADEMY courses and SIMPLICITY new designs. I found this STRIPED FABRIC at MOOD and thought it would make a great jumpsuit. I initially was going to make the full-length version of BUTTERICK #6522 VIEW B but then decided it would be cool to add elastic at the hem and shorten them. This is a straight forward pattern so it was a quick sew. I really recommend it despite pattern envelope lol! THE LOOK I wore my very old STEVE MADDEN heels and some black sunnies.
- DIY STRIPED TOP USING MCCALL #7976 AND NAGOYA PANTS
HI DARLINGS! Happy Tuesday. Today I am off to a meeting wearing my NAGOYA PANTS from PAPERCUT PATTERNS and my MCCALL #7976 Top. I love this PDF pants PATTERN, it is drafted really well and we actually used this pattern for the SEW IT ACADEMY where we did a course on creating a pant lining and then fully lining them. The top is one of my favorites! This is MCCALL #7976 VIEW A (with the cuff from view c) I used this great panel print I scored at MOOD FABRICS and it is yummy! It’s a POLY with great weight and drape and you can get some HERE. THE LOOK I wore my SCHULTZ patent leather pumps from BLOOMINGDALES but they are ONLINE HERE. STEVE MADDEN has a really similar shoe HERE. I also love THESE from STEVE MADDEN.
- DIY FRINGE SUEDE CLUTCH BAG
HI DARLINGS! I am doing a slight update to this post for those of you looking to add FRINGE to your clutch! You are going to follow the exact steps as shown below, the only change is that you will be cutting some fringe and adding it to the side of the bag. UPDATED FRINGE BAG If you would like to add fringe you will be using a leather, faux leather or suede fabric for your bag. You will then be cutting strips using a rotary cutter and ruler, cutting it almost to the end but not cutting through. For the fringe, you are going to measure up 9 inches from one bottom at each side of your main fabric and you are going to baste down the fringe to each side. ORIGINAL Okay so I had a little issue with my video, my card reader says the file is corrupt and I have tried EVERYTHING to get it to work (ugh!!!!) so I have to film it again…BUT because I told you I would post my DIY I took some pics of the step by step and explain it all below. I will try to film it again over the weekend and will post a video for you guys with a bonus design or something… I know I have spoiled you with video tutorials, lol! FOLLOW ALONG BELOW TOOLS: 5/8 Yard Fabric (My previous plaid fabric HERE) but you can make this out of any medium weight fabric and even home decor fabrics too. MY FLORAL FABRIC below is from Michael Levine HERE 5/8 Yard Lining Fabric (options HERE) but again you can use any lightweight lining fabric or quilting cotton for fun prints. 1/2 Yard Heavy Weight Fusible Interfacing HERE 16″ or 18″ Zipper (I prefer long zippers so the zipper pull stays out of my way. Cut (2) 15″ x 18″ pieces of fabric Cut (2) 15″ x 18″ pieces of lining Cut (2) 13″ x 16″ pieces of fusible heavyweight interfacing Fuse your interfacing to your main fabric pieces (not your lining) centering it. Note: We attach the zipper to the shorter sides (15″) Open your zipper and sandwich your zipper in between one fabric and one lining piece. Pin layers together. Make sure your zipper is face down on the fabric and the wrong side of the zipper tape is facing the lining (as shown) Sew through all layers using your zipper foot and make sure your layers stay aligned…pin, pin pin! Now open it up so you can stitch close to the edge on the lining side…. This will avoid the lining catching when you open the clutch. Press both sides. Attach the other lining and fabric piece the same way to the other side of the zipper tape. Open up the layers and lay lining pieces right side facing and fabric pieces right sides facing. Open up your zipper about 4″ before pinning all around. Sew all around stoping where the stop here is above. You are sewing in a U shape. Sew all around stoping 2″ in and leaving an opening for turning as shown above. Stop at the top same as you did for the for fabric pieces. Use the opening in the lining to open the zipper all the way and to pull your fabric through the opening to get it right side out. Cut off the excess zipper. press your seam allowance for the opening and sew it closed…stitching close the edge. Stuff your lining inside your bag, give it another press and you are done! Fold it over and rock it.

HI DARLINGS! It has been a crazy crazy time much like you all I have been self-quarantining in my house with the hubby and kiddos. I have actually not been sewing much aside from the DIY FACE MASK I posted on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL yesterday but I have a ton of things to photograph so I decided to play dress up and take pics of my MCCALL TOP. I used a great bright BUTTERFLY PRINT from JOANN. It has a great feel to it and worked great for this pattern. The top is not very difficult to sew up but it does take a bit of time. It was a fun top to make and it looks amazing with my ZARA slouchy jeans that I am obsessed with right now. I hope you guys are staying safe and inside. xx

- THE BEST AND EASIEST DIY FACE MASK WITH POCKET FOR FILTER
HI DARLINGS! This time in our lives has been unreal and so scary. Several weeks ago I was overwhelmed with requests to make a tutorial for a FACE MASK. I did a step by step with a download for the PATTERN on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL but I thought I would post it here on the blog too. I have almost 1.3 Million views on this video and have received so many emails from you guys telling me you have made 100 masks, 300 masks, 500 masks for donating, for friends and family and that makes me feel so happy that I was able to help in some very small way. Table of Contents WHAT IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO SEW? PRINTABLE PATTERN STEP-BY-STEP VIDEO ADDING POCKET FOR FILTER WHAT IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO SEW? As the founder of SEW IT ACADEMY, an online fashion sewing, and design school, I have offered a free trial that will teach you all the basics like working a sewing machine, basic stitches, sewing in a straight line, etc. Once you are done with the four courses in the trial you will be fully equipped to make yourself a mask. The trial is FREE, no credit card needed and no obligation. PRINTABLE PATTERN In case you missed it below is the video as well as a link to print a PRINTABLE PATTERN or a MEASUREMENT PATTERN that you can use to draw your own if you are unable to print. I have been asked about using the mask for kids and what I have done is decreased the percentage I use to print. For an adult, you print at 100% (actual size) and for kids, I minimize the size, you can do 80% for most kids ages 6-9 and maybe try 50% for infants or toddlers. Play with the percentage until you get a size that fits for your child. STEP-BY-STEP VIDEO ADDING POCKET FOR FILTER If you would like to add a pocket for a filter this is what you will do. When you get to the end where you turn the sides under and stitch catching the lining simply leave one side of the lining loose from the stitching. Below is a picture.
- DIY SIA DRESS USING A PDF PATTERN & MELANATED FABRICS
HI DARLINGS! I have been a pdf pattern kick lately and after seeing my friend make this pattern I knew I was going to make it too, it is such a great dress. The pattern is the SIA DRESS by MARSHA STYLE. The dress is fantastic but I had to make some adjustments, I will say that she also has videos on her blog showing how to make fit adjustments to the bodice. My adjustments were more based on fit because there is quite a bit of ease in the pattern so I could have cut two sizes smaller than I normally would cut. I ended up stitching the CF together because the pattern is designed for a deep V but it wasn’t comfortable to wear because the bodice is loose-fitting a bit so it was just gaping open. I love it stitched up! I also cut a 10 on the bodice and a 12 at the skirt and instead of grading at the waist I just took a deep pleat than marked. Aside from those few adjustments, this is a total winner! I plan to make it again. The FABRIC was a purchase from MELANATED FABRICS which we also have in three colors: CINNAMON, MINK & BLUESTONE THE LOOK
