- DIY Bold Black/White Striped Dress
Hi Darlings! I almost didn’t make it today! There are days where I am just not in the mood and today is one of those days. I had a realization the other day when talking with a friend that put some things in perspective and since then I have been feeling some kind of way and can’t quite put my finger on it. I also realized that I may not be giving enough of the glory to God, because although what I do may seem superficial to some, if you could read even a handful of the emails I get from women all over the world who have been inspired, motivated, or just encouraged to be the best mom/wife/friend to themselves that they can be you would understand why I take this so seriously. The gift god gave me is being multiplied by the thousands daily and I am so thankful for that. Now on to some lighthearted things like this dress I have on! Can you say LOVE…I saw a pic on pinterest of a similar dress and I knew I had the fabric in my stash so off I went to recreate it. This was so super simple because I just used a T-shirt block I created many moons ago and just added length and hip curve. You can recreate it by using my T-Shirt Maxi Tutorial and pegging it at the knee instead of flaring out. You can also create the belt I have on by using my Obi Belt Tutorial which is free and also the very first tutorial I made on video so it looks crappy but you get the idea, lol! - DIY Pleated Skirt + Pattern Review M6706
Hi Darlings! I would normally have more to say today but I am just going to share my pattern review with you and check back in tomorrow. Be well dolls! xoxo Fabric: Metro Textiles Call Kashi: 212-209-0004 / Pattern: M6706 / Heels (old) Aldo / Belt @ Target / Necklace and Bracelet @ Charming Charlie Pattern: M6706 Fabric Used: I have no idea what this fabric is. It has a little stiffness to it which makes the pleats awesome to make. Pattern Sizing: I cut the 6 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope when you were done? Yep I think so. Were the instructions easy to follow? This a pretty straight forward skirt, just please the fabric and attach it to the straight waistband, insert zipper and you’re done. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I wanted a pleated skirt for some time and this just happen to be the perfect fabric for it, it would also be a good fabric for a blazer but I didn’t have enough. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None. Would you sew it again? I may make another in leather, soon…like really soon. Would you recommend it to others? Yes! xoxo Mimi G LEARN TO SEW www.mimigstyle.bigcartel.com
- DIY One Shoulder Dress + Pattern Review M6320
Hi Darlings! This dress is #2 of the 4 items I made last Saturday and I LOVE it! I had to make some adjustments to the pattern which I detail below in the review but overall I really love this one and the fabric I got in NY from Kashi @Metrotextiles is perfect for it. Fabric: Double Knit @Metrotextiles Call Kashi at 212-209-0004 or if you are in NY go visit and tell him I sent you 265 W. 37th #908 NY/ Pattern: M6320 (OOP) but available at Joann and Hancock stores and online HERE / Shoes: Nine West available (option) HERE Pattern: M6320 View C Fabric Used: Double Knit @Metrotextiles Call Kashi at 212-209-0004 Pattern Sizing: I cut size 6 and still had to adjust the fit, it was too big, but he princess seams made it easy to take in. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope when you were done? Yep Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they are actually pretty easy to follow along and the pattern pieces come together quickly. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the one shoulder bodice but did not like the skirt with front pleats. I knew it had potential. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I removed the pleats and replaced them with darts because I don’t like pleats on pants or skirts, it creates fullness in the front of the dress which no one needs, lol Would you sew it again? I may use the top for a jumper I want to make. Would you recommend it to others? Yes, with adjustments.
- 5 Tips To Buying Jeans + OOTD
Hi Darlings! Today I am rocking an old blouse I had sitting in my closet and had never worn but found recently when I cleared out the closet again, it was just insane how much clothes I gave away to the girls at church….well after Chastidy came by and took what she wanted first, lol I also replaced all my hangers which took forever! but I did find a great top I had forgotten about 😉 So while getting ready this morning and slipping on my jeans (I really mean, squeezing into freshly washed jeans) I thought I would share my tips for buying them since I am often asked how I find so many great jeans that fit. I also get asked if I alter my jeans and the answer is no, I don’t ever alter jeans that I buy because I only buy jeans that fit and you can too…this is how. - DIY Maxi Dress + Pattern Review M6700
Hi Darlings! I took the weekend to myself and enjoyed some time in my studio. I set out to plan the next 7-8 items I plan to make over the next week and I was hoping to sew more on Sunday but instead enjoyed the day with my family; I did however sew 4 items on Saturday, 3 dresses and a skirt. Todays dress is one of the items I made this weekend and couldn’t wait to wear because the fabric is so silky soft on my skin and the print is just gorgeous, the pic does not do it justice. Total Cost: Pattern, Fabric, Elastic $16.50 H&M Belt (old) Pattern: Pattern M6700 (on sale online for $1.99) Pullover dress has fitted, mock wrap bodice, shoulder ties, elasticized shoulders and raised (seamed) waist, fitted, narrow hem, thread carriers and self belt. Fabric Used: Fabric: HERE only $5.00 a yard! Gorgeous Crinkle Printed Knit Use Coupon Code: “MIMI10” fro 10% off your purchase. Pattern Sizing: I cut the 8 and made a small fit adjustment to the bodice. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope when you were done? Yep Were the instructions easy to follow? This is a fast and easy dress to make, which is why it has been such a popular pattern this season. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Ummm It’s a maxi, I love anything that is a maxi, lol and I had seen it made up several times already so I knew when I came across the right fabric I would be making it. It is flowy, fun and fast to make which makes it a #winner Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I took out about 1″ out of the bodice because it was a little too big for my small frame. Would you sew it again? I have so much more patterns to make but if I need quick and easy or an instant gratification project I may pull it out and make it out of a fall transitional fabric and wear it with a blazer. Would you recommend it to others? Most certainly!
- Kelly’s Review: Off The Shoulder Dress Tutorial
Hi Darlings! I say this over and over again!!! it does NOT matter if you are my size or Kelly’s size, it only matters how you wear it and work it!!! Please bear witness to my fabulous muse Kelly! Thanks Kelly for always making my tutorials look so damn good and showing that you can work it at any size. She even made it her own by adding a seam to the sleeve pattern and creating a two part sleeve and using a very cool faux leather! KELLY’S REVIEW Pattern Description: Mimi G’s Off the shoulder maxi dress Pattern Sizing: pattern is drafted to your measurements Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Pretty close. Were the instructions easy to follow? Mimi is an excellent teacher and her directions are always so clear and easy to follow. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? This went together with such ease and I think you get a really sophisticated look for not a lot of fuss. I also like that the pattern is so versatile. This pattern lends itself to becoming a TNT. Fabric Used: French Terry and faux leather. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only change I made was to use a two part sleeve and make the bottom half out of faux leather that I had in the stash. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely, I already have. Conclusion: This is another winning tutorial from Mimi at mimigstyle.com. What I love about this and the other tutorials I’ve made is that you can just change up the fabric and embellishments and build an entire wardrobe around these 5 or 6 easy basic pieces.

- DIY Dress + Michael Kors OOP Pattern Review
Hi Darlings!! I am SO EXCITED that it is almost time to head to NY! it’s one of my favorite cities and I always feel at home there. Adrienne and I are trying to squeeze as much as possible into our time there, lol! I am also excited because I get to finish editing the “Off The Shoulder Maxi” Tutorial tonight, I know you guys have been waiting patiently so I thank you! It will be available here on tomorrow. Today’s pattern review is for old out of print Michael Kors pattern which I have had in my pattern files since it came out YEARS ago. What is funny is that I always buy designer patterns even if I don’t like them, I just have an obsession with them and so I just put them aside if I am not excited about them right then. When I came across it again the other day I figured I would make it since looking at it again I really liked it. I will say that I plan to make it again in a thin jersey in black or navy because although I really like it I used whatever fabric I didn’t already have a plan for and it is a little to heavy for this. I do love it and so did the hubby so I guess it came out ok, LOL Pattern: V1029 OOP Fabric: Lightweight Ponte (HERE) Notes: I love the dress and feel like it would be really nice in a thinner fabric verses a Ponte but it did come out well and I plan to make it again with a few modifications. There is a lot of gathering but other then that this is really easy to put together. The next time I make it I am going to make some finishing changes, this one was surprisingly generic in the construction.

- DIY Flirty Floral + Pattern Review NL 6121
Hi Darlings!! I have a thing about wearing clothes I make more then once or twice before I give them away to the girls at the church, mostly it’s because once I am photographed in it I usually don’t share it again, but today while standing in my ridiculously over crowded closet, uttering the words “I don’t have anything to wear!”, I started to look in the back of the closet for any “hidden” dresses I may have pushed back there. I came across this little number that I made last June and wore and photographed myself in it but did not review the pattern so I put it on and remembered why I did not give this one away….it’s uber cute! lol. Here is the review I failed to give you last year 😉 and btw, the pattern is only $4 HERE Pattern Description: Misses Dress HERE Pattern Sizing: I cut the 4 Fabric Used: Print Mesh (I lined the dress) using a tricot. HERE is a similar FABRIC that will look great. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done? yes Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I remember liking how cute it looked and how comfy it must be to wear; It does however have a considerable amount of gathering for the three tiers but once you past that it is a breeze. Once I was done and put it on it made my waist look wide so I belted it and then it just becomes even cuter. Not belted didn’t work for me. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None Would you sew it again? No, I have so many other patterns but I do really love this one. Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I think it’s cute and a great summer dress.
- What I Line My Knits With
Hi Darlings! I get asked this often so really quickly here is the short of it 😉 I line my knits with knits usually with the same fabric if it is thin and solid. If I am using a print or a double knit I line my knits with Tricot which you can find HERE and used also for lingerie. xoxo MG
