  • DIY TOP USING MCCALLS 7812

HI DARLINGS! I am hoping you spent a relaxing weekend with family. I am currently on a cruise ship with my honey so I am very grateful for the scheduling feature on WordPress, LOL! This MCCALL 7812 top is such a quick sew and I plan to make the dress version of it too but I decided first on the top because I had just under a yard of this great fabric I wanted to use it. When I wore my top with a bodycon black knit dress I got from FOREVER 21 it looked like a whole new dress. I can wear it with jeans and skirts and then also over a dress like this! Great pattern and fun to make for sure. I used a DOUBLE BRUSHED KNIT from LA FINCH FABRICS. NEW PODCAST EPISODE Head over to listen to today’s podcast episode at BUSINESSSHET.COM

  • MY TRIP BACK TO PUERTO RICO AFTER 24 YEARS

HI DARLINGS! I am back from my trip to Puerto Rico, and I miss it so much already. I had not been back to PUERTO RICO in 24 years. Up until six years ago I worked full time and had to provide for my family, take care of the kids, work, etc. and honestly I couldn’t afford to travel so going back home to PR never seemed feasible. When I started my blog and then my business, I worked diligently on growing it and building Mimi G Style, Inc and that became the focus. Last year I finally had planned to go home, I was taking time off, taking Norris and the kids and finally visiting my dad but then hurricane Maria happened, so that put our plans on hold. My dad and family on the island did ok during that disaster and although my dad went 86 days without light and very little clean water they managed and now is doing great. I had no plans to visit just yet, but my dad’s wife texted and said she was having a surprise birthday party for my dads 65th birthday and asked if I would be able to fly in and surprise him. I had about two weeks before his birthday, so Norris and I decided we were going to go. I was so excited I almost couldn’t stand it, but I had to wait two whole weeks, It was like torture, lol. We cleared our schedules and worked like mad people trying to get everything done, because outside of traveling to PR and spending 7 days there we would be flying back home two days before Thanksgiving to cook, eat with mom and the kids, and then leave again two days later on my birthday cruise for another 7 days. We managed to get everything done and off we went! We had the most fantastic time, and we captured some video of our trip and most importantly video of me surprising my dad. I wish I could have stayed another week there, the island of Puerto Rico is incredible, and I promise you there is no other island like it. I was amazed to see how hard the people have worked to put Puerto Rico back together after so much disaster. The island looked beautiful with little sign of that hurricane. I was so happy to be able to support local artisans and local businesses during my trip. Ok here is a video of our visit and below are some pics of the fantastic time we had.  I am so blessed that I was able to pick up and go to see my father and my grandparents, they are amazing, resilient people who I love dearly. Be thankful for your family and live fully. Puerto Rico is in need of tourism so please if you plan to take a vacation and you want to experience the absolute time of your life go to PUERTO RICO! I have a dear friend, more like a brother, who gives custom tours of PR so you can enjoy the island like locals. His name is David, and his INSTAGRAM is @igottourspr, please reach out to him or visit his website I GOT TOURS PR when you visit and tell him his Sis, Mimi G sent you. A GLIMPSE AT PR I would need three blog posts to share all the pics I took so I am just sharing some of my favorites, we did a lot while in PR but here is a just a few pics of some of the places we visited the first part of the trip, the second part of the trip I put my phone away and spent time in the countryside with my family. LAJAS which is the south of the island and took a boat from LA PARGUERA which you must visit, it is truly breathtaking. SAMUEL LIND who took time to show us around his home. We purchased some art pieces from his studio and spent a great deal of time just chatting about his life. You can learn more about him HERE. EL MORRO and went over to the CASA BLANCA museum. It was as the first fortification of the San Juan islet  as was the residence for Juan Ponce de León and his family. LOÍZA for some amazing food and beaches! EL PARQUE DE PALOMAS, my dad would take me here so I could feed the pigeons. It’s so much fun and slightly gross, LOL!! but you must experience it. YAUCO, so much thanks to Project Yaucromatic – an initiative set up by PR artists to revive this forgotten town after the devastation left after hurricane Maria. Yauco stands proudly with its homes covered in vibrant colors and loudly spreads the message that WE ARE HERE. WE ARE STRONG. WE WILL BE HEARD. HATILLO so after surprising dad (which you can see in the video) we stayed with him at my family house. They live in the countryside so the life there is simple, to say the least. My grandparents home is still the same, after 24 years nothing much has changed.

  • MY MUST HAVE FALL BOOT STYLED TWO WAYS

HI DARLINGS! This post is sponsored by Zappos’. I don’t know about you guys, but one of the things I love most about fall is the changing leaves, the crisp air, and the ability to rock my jeans with boots! I recently saw these Hartley boots by Dansko on Zappos’ and fell in love. You guys know I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda girl, and although we don’t get super cold weather in LA, it does get rather chilly some days, so I take full advantage, and throw on my boots and cardigan. Thanks to Zappos’ I always get fast and free shipping, great customer service and I can rely on a range of styles which is helpful when I have to shop for myself and two teenagers. Dansko boots are so comfortable! Dansko is known for comfort and let me tell you; I can stand in these babies all day. I saw these same Hartley Nubuck boots in grey with a brown tab, and I think I am going to get those too. Zappos’ makes it easy to shop all year round and I get my order fast! Dansko boots look just as awesome in this look too. I can’t wait to wear them again with a sweater dress I just picked up.

  • DIY SILK DUPIONI WRAP TOP USING VOGUE 8833

HI DARLINGS! Hi Guys and Happy Friday. I made this top so long ago I forgot what pattern I used, lol. I had to go look for it in my pattern files but I found it! Its V8833 but unfortunately it is out of print. There are other similar wrap top patterns so it shouldn’t be hard to find one. I am sorta on the fence about this one. I love the fabric and the style but I should have made it one size bigger because if I move around the front wrap buckles a bit and shows my bra. I think I would also adjust the front wrap on to keep it laying flat on my body but it will do! OUTFIT DETAILS PATTERN: Vogue 8833 (out of print) FABRIC: This fabric has been in my stash for a while, it’s a really pretty silk dupioni. You can find some great colors HERE JEANS AND SHOES: Okay the shoes are from Nordstrom Rack from many many years ago, lol. They are by TORY BURCH and I love them! My jeans are from MADEWELL and they are really comfy and high waisted.

  • OOTD: MY TARGET KIMONO AND WIDE LEG JEANS

HI DARLINGS! I am a little rushed for time today so I am going to keep this OOTD short. I bought this KIMONO at TARGET recently and it has quickly become a favorite, it’s so silky and pretty, lol. I rocked it with my wide leg jeans from the GAP (similar shape HERE) and my URBAN OUTFITTERS hat (similar one HERE.) I am in Philly and headed to NY tomorrow so I am running around trying to get a ton of work done. I hope you are all having a wonderful week!

  • DIY WRAP DRESS AND PANTS USING NEW LOOK 6581

HI DARLINGS! I love this DIY. This is a new favorite pattern and I plan to make it a lot. The pattern is so fast and easy to make and I did a SEW-ALONG which I will be posting next weekend on my YOUTUBE CHANNEL so keep an eye out for that and if you are not already SUBSCRIBED to my channel go do that asap. Ok, this fabric was on the clearance section if MICHAEL LEVINE and I got it for $5 a yard. It is so soft and feels amazing. I also made the pants from the pattern and I love how you can wear them alone or together. PATTERN: NEW LOOK 6581 This is a great, easy to make, and fast pattern. It has no bust darts, its easy to fit and has a full wrap so I don’t have to worry about the wind, lol. The pants have an elastic waist so they pull on easily. FABRIC: Brushed Jersey from MICHAEL LEVINE which feels like you are wearing a soft blanket, lol. This one is not online but you can find a ton of great sweater knits HERE. ACCESSORIES: This necklace is so old! I think it’s from Forever 21 but I don’t remember. The glasses are from a mall kiosk.
