- DIY BOW NECK DRESS + PATTERN REVIEW #S8214
HI DARLINGS! Happy Tuesday and isn’t this dress awesome? lol…YES. This SIMPLICITY #8214 pattern is great and I have already cut the jumpsuit view to make but this Rayon FABRIC from designer KIMBERLY KIGHT for COTTON + STEEL is out of this world. I love using “non-traditional” fabric for garments so when I realized this was a “quilting” fabric I knew the rayon would have a great hand and I was right. It feels amazing and drapes like a dream. I have a pattern review below and just in case you are wondering my bag is from Michael Kors (old) and my shoes are Steve Madden (also old) My sunnies are from Louis Vuitton. Pattern Sizing: I cut an 8 top and a 10 bottom and graded at the waist. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done? Yes I think it did. Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, it is clear and easy to follow What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love this pattern! I love the dresses, I love the jumpsuits and the neck bow. Fabric Used: Rayon Fabric HERE Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None. Would you sew it again? YES! - The Fem Passion Pursuit Movement
HI DARLINGS! This year Chevrolet and Essence teamed up to promote individuals who have that 9 to 5 job, but who are also pursuing their passion. Shout out to all you midnight coffee drinkers and 4 am risers! I know that life well lol. I teamed up with Chevy and Essence again this year because I love how they inspire and encourage art in all forms. This year it’s all about #FuelYourHustle and the Passion Pursuit! The winner of the Street Style Maven of The Year was my girl Blake Von D! We have been long time “internet friends” who admire each other’s work often, so I was stoked to see she won because I felt it was well deserved. Kelly Rowland took home the Wardrobe Crush Award and other guests included Zendaya, Naturi Naughton, Essence Fashion Editor, Joiee Thorpe and my personal friend, designer Ron Bass returned this year as well. Check this video out…
- THE INVENTION + PATENT OF THE SEWING MACHINE
HI DARLINGS! I had to share this from my recent 10 day biz trip. My honey, NORRIS and I checked into out Airbnb when we go to NY and realized there was a historical cemetery just minutes from where we were staying. We started to make our way over after realizing the amazing BASQUIAT is buried there so we went on a legit burial hunt to find his resting place. It was really amazing to see how many people had left small tokens like paint brushes and paint supplies for him. What we didn’t realize was how GORGEOUS that cemetery is. It is truly a peaceful and beautiful place. While making our way I started to research who else was buried there and lo and behold ELIAS HOWE JR. inventor of the sewing machine. WHAT ARE THE ODDS! that we would come across that… a total surreal moment. We stood there appreciating the fact that had it not been for him I wouldn’t be doing what I absolutely love to do. *From Green-Wood Cemetery* “It was indeed Elias Howe, not Singer, who invented and patented the sewing machine in America! Though his innovation was patented in 1846, Howe spent many years developing his machines and litigating over his rights to the technology. Ultimately, he was successful, dramatically increasing his wealth through royalties on every sewing machine manufactured in America.” Although not the only person who had the idea he was the only one who successfully finalized the machine and fought 8 years to defend his patent. His story is amazing…You can read more about him HERE and HERE We had a great time during that trip! Although this post is from NY we will be posting videos of our entire trip starting with Chicago and you can see the first one below. HOPE YOU ENJOY OUR TRIP… LOL

- MY DIY BELL SLEEVE TUTORIAL
HI DARLINGS! I made THIS DRESS few weeks back and you guys loved the sleeve so I thought I would show you how to quickly make it with any commercial sleeve pattern you may be working on. I used a stupid calculation that hurt my head, lol then I came across THIS SITE By Hand London and was like “mind blown” she has a RADIUS CALCULATOR for making circle skirt (genius) but you can use it for anything like a half circle for the sleeve I made HERE. Here is how to do it… Grab a sleeve pattern, cut it so that it hits above your elbow and measure along the hem. now take the “waist” radius given and that is what we are going to use. I love this app because it also gives you a cutting diagram and the calculation has 5/8″ seam allowance already (awesome sauce) TAAADAAA! Hope that helps you get a little fancy with your sleeve patterns. Having design options is always great. I have another sleeve tutorial for you next week. WANNA LEARN TO SEW? - MY NEW FAVORITE BOOTS!
HELLO DARLINGS! I teamed up with my friends at ZAPPOS to spruce up my fall wardrobe. I spent a lot of time on the ZAPPOS SITE trying to decide which CLARKS booties I wanted, lol It was hard. I love the start of fall and although I live in “sunny California” we do have a nice change in weather that allows for some light layering. Wearing boots/booties is one of my favorite things about fall. I ordered my boots on ZAPPOS and aside from the super fast and free shipping I had so many options to choose from. They have an amazing customer service team which I had the pleasure of speaking with when I needed to know the width of the bootie since I have wide feet and sometimes booties can feel tight. They were very helpful and my booties feel great.
