HI DARLINGS! I am in NY and freezing my butt off and since back home they are enjoying 85 degree weather I am super jelous, lol. The top is just self drafted since it’s pretty straight forward much like my FREEBIE TUTORIAL (HERE).  I added a bow for drama and wore my GUCCI slip ons (HERE) I hope you are having a wonderful day and I will see you tomorrow with my announcement. Thank you SIMPLICITY, FISKARS, FABRIC.COM, BABYLOCK, THE FABRIC STORE and MICHAEL LEVINE for supporting this years 6th annual and final conference!

  • LACE BORDER DIY DRESS + PATTERN REVIEW #S8296

HI DARLINGS! I have been in bed sick as a dog for two days but today I am feeling better and I am back to work. I should take more time off but I have so much to get done! Today’s pattern review is on SIMPLICITY #8296 I love this dress and I had the perfect fabric for it which is still available HERE Pattern Description: S8296 Misses dresses and tops Pattern Sizing: I cut a 10 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes Were the instructions easy to follow? Oh yeah, Simplicity does a great job with their instructions and this one is pretty straight forward. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the off the shoulder and how great it was for this fabric. Fabric Used: Denim with a border lace found HERE Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only thing I did was add eyelets to the front band for my necktie. Would you sew it again? Yes, this will stay in rotation for a bit, lol Thank you SIMPLICITY, FISKARS, FABRIC.COM, BABYLOCK, THE FABRIC STORE and MICHAEL LEVINE for supporting this years 6th annual and final conference!

  • MY DIY PATCHWORK DRESS + PATTERN REVIEW M7539

HI DARLINGS! Can we just agree that this is the coolest dress ever? Ok… This is M7539, and although it doesn’t look great on the envelope this pattern has a lot of potential, I made view B with the pockets from view D and used both the wrong and right sides of my stretch denim fabric. The pattern review is below along with a link to some stretch denim I love. I wore some old Steve Madden chunky heels and Forever 21 sunglasses. Pattern Sizing: I cut an 8 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Umm sort of lol Were the instructions easy to follow? Yeah, this pattern is pretty simple, it doesn’t have a ton of pieces and sews up quickly. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the basic shape and how much I can do with it. Fabric Used: STRETCH DENIM Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn’t make any changes really. I added pockets to the skirt and used the wrong and right sides of my fabric to create the patchwork. Would you sew it again? Yes Thank you SIMPLICITY, FISKARS, FABRIC.COM, BABYLOCK, THE FABRIC STORE and MICHAEL LEVINE for supporting this years 6th annual and final conference!

  • MOUTH WATERING MIRO

HI DARLINGS! I think the only thing I love more than designing is eating. As a self-proclaimed foodie, I spend a lot of time traveling and finding the most delicious places to please my palette. When Norris started MOUTH WATERING MONDAYS on his blog, about a year ago, it quickly became a favorite segment, and I often got to enjoy the fruits of his labor when I joined him on his tasting ventures. Recently I decided that since I plan to be sharing more about my travel, diet, and ventures in the kitchen, I would also start sharing some “must eat” restaurants I have visited. BEWARE: Drooling may occur while reading this post. Chef Gavin Mills is a warm and unassuming man with a wonderful humbleness about his genius. He has been cooking 23 years, and as his mother tells it, he came home from school at the age of ten and said, “I want to be Chef.” He moved to Los Angeles from Essex London 8 years ago and has quickly made an impression. Mimi: What is your food philosophy? Chef: Here we try to do everything from scratch. Whole animals we get in, we butcher. As cliché as it is, we try to be respectful to the animal, we use every single part of it. It gave its life for us. I think that’s very important. Basic,  just trying to use all great produce. Put simply, you know, it just needs to be one, two, three flavors on a plate no more than that. Just cook simple good food, that’s it. Mimi: Do you wake up in the middle of the night with an idea, like oh my god!? Chef: Sometimes. It just comes from experiences. After doing this for so long you just kind of know what works. It’s funny when you go to farmer’s market, and you see tomato and basil come out at the same time. And all these classic flavor combinations that you see, you’ll see them come out at the same time.  So whether it’s fava beans and morels you’ll see they come into season at the same time, I think this is how our classic combinations come about. Back in the day, you had tomato and basil so you put them together and that’s how it becomes such a staple of your life. What grows together goes together. If you go with that philosophy of what’s in the market as a general point will go together. In California we’re kind of lucky, we don’t have huge seasons because we get a nice consistent temperature, but tomatoes in August compared to tomatoes now are like night and day. Mimi: I like that, “What grows together goes together” Chef: I just thought of that (laughs) Chef: It’s something I think every chef wants to do but not every chef is lucky enough to have an owner like me that allows that, so I’m very blessed in that the owner is very lenient with me lets me kind of be creative and do what I do. If you are in LA or plan to visit please stop by and tell Chef Gavin Mimi and Norris sent you.

  • TRACK SUIT AND HEELS

HI DARLINGS! Okay, today is an #OOTD kinda day. I was running around town last week trying to find some fabric I needed for a project and although most times you can find me in jeans, sweats and fashion sneakers I was feeling sassy and put on my heels. I know there is a lot of back and forth about heels with sweats but I say do what you like and don’t pay any attention to rules. I think heels always add sex appeal and wearing fitted track pants and heels ha always been a look I like. I got this TRACK SUIT and Baseball cap at URBAN OUTFITTERS a few weeks ago. My heels are old from STEVE MADDEN Thank you SIMPLICITY, FISKARS, FABRIC.COM, BABYLOCK, THE FABRIC STORE and MICHAEL LEVINE for supporting this years 6th annual and final conference!

  • MY DIY PAPER BAG JUMPSUIT

HI DARLINGS! I have been so busy lately it is insane. I did not get a lot of sewing time in last week so I was so glad that I still had some recent DIY’s I had yet to photograph. This jumpsuit is from my SIMPLICITY PATTERN #8301 and this TENCEL fabric is amazing. I am headed to NY next week for a new project we are launching in April and I am so excited!! I will be posting about it soon. Today however I am taking a few hours to sew and hoepfully complete something cool. Thank you SIMPLICITY, FISKARS, FABRIC.COM, BABYLOCK, THE FABRIC STORE and MICHAEL LEVINE for supporting this years 6th annual and final conference!

  • RED JACKET CHRONICLES PART THREE

HI DARLINGS! Okay, I am going to leave you with how I styled the RED JACKET since I have teased you all week with it. I usually dump my closet every couple months of all the stuff I have made and let me friends take most of it but this jacket is not going anywhere! I spent so much time on it that I will be wearing this jacket when I am 80 years old LOL! You can check out Norris’s post on his blog later today at NORRISDANTAFORD.COM STYLED IT: I wore one of my favorite dresses from Urban Outfitters and my favorite shoe (you all know this) from Jessica Simpson. The awesome ring is a vintage find and I LOVE it. Thank you SIMPLICITY, FISKARS, FABRIC.COM, BABYLOCK, THE FABRIC STORE and MICHAEL LEVINE for supporting this years 6th annual and final conference!
