  • SEWING FOR MOM: VINTAGE FIND ALTERED

HI DARLINGS! Boy oh, boy did you guys blow up my social media with comments and love for my mom, lol. It made her year. This has been a lot of fun for both of us; I get a break from taking pics, and she gets to steal the limelight, lol. This dress is a vintage find that didn’t fit well, but it was too good to pass up. This is a DVF knit dress with a back zipper. When I bought it, I knew the elastic at the waistline was out of shape and had lost some elasticity, so I opened up about an inch or so, removed it and replaced it with a new piece. The sides were also a little big and instead of just pulling the elastic to gather up the ease I took the sides in a bit. She loves this dress, she wore it to church so when she got home, I had her photograph in it, lol. She said all the ladies at the church were asking her about it. • SEWING FOR MOM: FAUX WRAP DRESS USING BURDA 6829

HI DARLINGS! Well, I did a little sewing for mom. This week is all about my mom and today it’s about mom in this faux wrap dress I made her using Burda 6829. Over the last two years she has had a lot of up’s and downs but always manages to keep her faith and spirits intact. She spent 15 months on a mission in Mexico, a very dangerous part of Mexico, working with families who live and work in the city landfills. She is now back in Los Angeles with me and getting used to a new place, new home, new climate, LA traffic, etc. She is doing great since arriving six months ago. Aside from all of those changes, she has also lost weight and has started living a healthier lifestyle; my mom had struggled with obesity for many years and now is feeling better all around. Since much of her clothing no longer fits, I decided to make her a few things. Now before you say how sweet I am, let me be honest here. I never sew for anyone, but when I made her the first dress I thought to myself if I make her two or three more pieces I could photograph her for the blog this week and then I won’t have to shoot and can take a break,” LOL! So this week is “Mom Week” on the blog and she was down for that since she had such a great time when I did her mom makeover in 2016 (Posted HERE) I used BURDA 6829 which is a great faux wrap dress pattern that pulls over so you don’t need any zippers or closures! I used a great stretch velvet floral print I had in my stash from LA FINCH FABRICS. The pink colorway is sold out but there is a RED FLORAL HERE.  I didn’t make any modifications to the pattern aside from shortening it cuz mom is only 4 feet 11 inches. • HOW I STAY ORGANIZED + FREE DOWNLOADABLE PLANNERS

HI DARLINGS! I get asked all the time how I manage to keep all the different areas of Mimi G Style, Inc. in order. It is always a challenge to stay on top of new projects, collaborations, pattern designs, photography, video content, etc. so I thought I would do a video talking about what helps me keep it all together and how I use my free downloadable planner sheets. Below is a video and some info and links to my most used items just below that. I also included a free download of both my PLANNER SHEETS and DESIGN KIT. TO DOWNLOAD PLANNER AND DESIGN KIT: CLICK THIS LINK, enter your email and name and hit subscribe to list. The confirmation page will have your link to download both PDF’s. It only takes a second, and we promise not to bombard you with a bunch of useless junk emails. SOME OF MY FAV’S I film a lot of my talking head YOUTUBE videos using my iPhone and the stand you see below. You can get the TRIPOD can be found HERE, and I use the MANFROTTO CELL PHONE MOUNT HERE. This is the best one I have used; it holds up well, it is stable and easy to take with me. THE REMARKABLE is remarkable. I love love love notebooks and writing on paper, but I hate having a ton of notebooks and forgetting what I wrote where. The Remarkable tablet is everything I have ever wanted. I talk about in the video above but just to recap… it feels like writing on paper, it’s not full of apps or used for web surfing. It is a tablet that you can write on, sketch on and upload to the cloud if needed. You can create how ever many notebooks you want with easy to find bookmarks and the ability to decide the template for each page of a notebook you create. Check it out, as I mentioned this is not sponsored, I just love it, and it has changed my life. • FLORAL FIT AND FLARE DRESS USING BASIC BLOCKS

HI DARLINGS! We have had so many amazing classes in the SEW IT ACADEMY, we have draped, drafted, and have used basic fitting blocks to create new garments. Today’s fit and flare dress is from this months course. If you are not familiar with SEW IT ACADEMY, you can read all about it HERE and HERE. I made my dress from a SCUBA KNIT I picked up at JOANN FABRICS I didn’t intend on it being my Easter dress when I made it but it just might be, the florals and colors are perfect for the day, so we will see if I make something else or not before then. • DIY BANDED VNECK TOP TURNED DRESS USING MCCALL’S 7657

HI DARLINGS! Yay, it’s Friday. I had such a busy week that all I want to do this weekend is sleep. Do you guys have plans? I was hoping to get some “just for me” sewing but not sure that is gonna happen. I did get to sew up this DIY V NECK BANDED TOP which was so fun to make using MCCALL 7657  a week or so ago. I knew I was going to make it a dress using VIEW D. The fabric I used is a really yummy midweight crepe I had in my stash in a really cool rusty color. I wasn’t sure about it at first but after I made it I was all in and ready for some more rust in my life, lol. MODIFICATIONS: I added 5″ to the gathered peplum, slimmed the bodice because it was a little boxy. I shortened the sleeve because apparently, I have shorts arms, lol. • DIY RIB KNIT PULLOVER TURTLENECK DRESS

HI DARLINGS! I hope you all had a great weekend. I did a ton of work but managed to take Sunday off and made this rib knit pullover turtleneck dress. I also made time to have our family dinner. I try to cook on Sunday evenings so all the kids can be in under one roof, lol. This past Sunday I made Rachel Ray’s “WON’T BE SINGLE FOR LONG VODKA CREAM PASTA” It’s always been a family favorite. For lunch tho I made these amazing and super easy sliders. The recipe is from a friend I follow in IG named THE NOVICE CHEF. I promise they are so yummy I almost ate the entire pan. The dress is a DIY that I made using MY GEORGIA pattern. I made a long fishtail dress from the pattern HERE and have a STEP-BY-STEP VIDEO TUTORIAL on that dress on my YOUTUBE. This one is the same pattern, same method minus the fishtail and sleeve ruffle. I bought the fabric from THE FABRIC STORE. • DIY JACKET USING SIMPLICITY 8558 PATTERN

HI DARLINGS! If you guys can’t tell, I love this SIMPLICITY 8558 pattern. I have made this jacket three times (HERE and HERE) including this new modified one. Although I love the pattern as is, I decided to modify it into an ankle length jacket. Being able to wear a simple tee and jeans with a long jacket or cardigan is my favorite everyday look. Getting the most out of your patterns should always be a goal. I’m always looking for ways to make more looks from one pattern. This pattern is an easy sew, it’s unlined, and it can be made from a ton of different fabrics. You can get the pattern at your local JOANN, WALMART or ONLINE. MODIFICATIONS SIMPLICITY 8558 pattern: I added length, made belt loops, created a belt and added stitching lines for interest and to add weight to the belt. • DIY SLIP DRESS AND VELVET BURNOUT KIMONO

HI DARLINGS! I have been wanting to make a kimono out this fabric for so long. I have had it in my stash for years. Recently I decided to find some silky coordinating fabric to make slip dress that I could wear underneath. This charmeuse is silky, soft and feels amazing on my skin. I decided to use the charmeuse for the band on the kimono and although the pattern I used didn’t have a band on the sleeve I added it. The slip dress is VOGUE#9278 and the kimono is SIMPLICITY #8553 I love both of these patterns and plan to make the longer version of this slip dress and a few more Kimono’s because they are so easy to wear. I wore simple jewelry and nude barley there CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave #slipdress #diyslipdress #diykimono #floralkimono #diydress #sewingkimono
