  • #DIY Fishtail Maxi + #DIY Puff Sleeve Top + Pattern Review B5562

Hi Darlings! I hope you have been having a great week, I have been working feverishly trying to catch up because on top of everything that I have to get done we are also moving yay! FINALLY, we found a nice house in a wonderful gated community and we cannot wait to move and get settled in. I am also so excited at the amazing sponsors that we have for the 2nd Annual Sewing, Fashion & Style Event in July. Which also brings me to my next announcement, I had a waiting list of those who did not register in time and although I expected the registration to be open a bit longer we sold out so quickly and then got overbooked, lol so I MUST stop accepting any more attendees, I’m sorry but if I have any cancellations I will post it. Now on to my OOTD (outfit of the day) I have been wanting a fishtail maxi for a while now but couldn’t find one I liked and since I needed to work out the kinks a few weeks ago for a new tutorial in April (hint) I made a mock up sample for myself. I also had made this top using out of print pattern Butterick 5562 (still available online) Pattern Description: Close fitting pull over top (View A) Pattern Sizing: I cut the x-small but still had to take it in about 1″ on each side because it was pretty loose on me. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done with it? Yes Were the instructions easy to follow? Oh yeah, this is a great pattern and the gathered sleeves is so cute and easy so it sews up pretty quickly. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the sleeves in view A Fabric Used: I used a great striped Knit found HERE, I love this fabric. It is a vicose/spandex blend and has a silky soft feel. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I created a facing to create the band look I wanted at the neckline. I do not like the fold over method for finishing necklines that is often suggested in the pattern instructions, that NEVER looks good. Would you sew it again? I think I might. Once I work out some of the changes for this maxi and an additional flare I want to add I can finish the tutorial. Necklace (gifted) / Sunnies from ASOS (old)

  • Im Back! OOTD: Yellow Sweater + Printed Wedges

Hi Darlings! Thank you so much for all your prayers and good thoughts! I am feeling much better and now just have to wait for my cough and runny nose to go away and I’ll be back to my old self. I am so far behind that I almost had a mini panic attack yesterday just thinking of it but my hubby always helps me relax and reminds me that I have to take care of myself and that everything will be fine and it always is. While I am working on catching up I am going to keep you busy with a giveaway or two this week starting tomorrow 🙂 Today I am keeping it simple and easy and most of all comfy on my first day back in the real world and just because I needed to brighten myself up I wore a really bright sweater. These pics were the best I could do today, lol GAP Yellow Sweater (similar) HERE / Gap Jeans HERE / Steve Madden Wedges (similar) HERE Sunnies (similar) HERE , HERE & HERE / Urban Outfitters Necklace (old)

  • #DIY Dress Using Color-Blocked Fabric + Check Me Out!

Hi Darlings! I had a pretty busy weekend, too busy because before I looked up it was Monday. I wish I had 48hrs in a day because I just cant keep up with everything, maybe I should look into cloning, LOL I made this dress last night after looking through my stash and trying to figure out how to best use this fabric. It is a medium weight knit with the interesting striped and solid color blocked pattern that I wanted to keep in text but make interesting so I when I came across a pattern I have made before (a few times) I knew it would be perfect because the pattern itself (V2091 which is out of print) is cut on the bend because of the pleated side creating an interesting effect at the hem with the angled look. It was fun because it took shape without me really needing to think of it much and it turned out kinda cool. I also wanted to use the fabric for sleeves and so I used the sleeve pattern from THIS Tracy Reese dress I made and they fit pretty darn good. It just goes to show that sometimes it is not the pattern but the fabric that can lead you to make a really cool garment. I also have always been a huge fan of this patten because I love the boat neck! it is high on the neck the way I like it without being annoying to wear. Maybe Vogue should bring this one back. **Also on the news front Bernina has asked me to represent them at the Craftcation Conference in March as an instructor 😉 check me out HERE! Fabric info coming soon, trying to find it; I will post an update. DIY Dress (similar ready made) HERE and HERE / Steve Madden Red Heels (similar) HERE

  • High Waist Pencil Skirt Tutorial REVIEWED by Kelly H.

Hi Darlings! I am always so excited to see my tutorials reviewed because it gives me insight in how to improve or add or adjust and it is always GREAT to see someone as fabulous as Kelly showing us all that feeling great and looking great does not only come in a size 2 ROCK IT! She did an amazing job and I love the denim fabric choice. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us Kelly! xoxo Skirt Tutorial Reviewed by Kelly Horton of “Sew Much To Do, Sew Little Time” Pattern Description: High Waist Pencil Skirt Pattern Sizing:You draft the pattern according to your measurements Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so. Were the instructions easy to follow? I have watched a lot of sewing/crafting videos over the years. I continue to be impressed by Mimi’s teaching style as she walks you through every step and tells you why you’re doing what you’re doing in simple easy to understand terms. Mimi has produced another winner. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The tutorial is full of techniques and manages to give you all the information you would typically learn in a sewing 101 series yet presents it in a way that is so matter of fact and encouraging that you don’t even realize you’re learning intermediate techniques. Pattern drafting, fitting, topstitching, edge stitching, the COOLEST, EASIEST invisible zipper insertion technique known to man (this alone makes the video worth the price) are just a few of the techniques you’ll learn in this tutorial. Fabric Used: Stretch Denim Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Not necessary since the pattern is custom Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Honestly, I don’t know what to be happier about, my perfect skirt, how much use I will get out of this pattern or the unlimited options that can be created using the basic skirt pattern. Conclusion: This will be my TNT pencil skirt pattern High Waist Pencil Skirt Tutorial HERE

  • OOTD: Daytime Sequins + Red Pumps

Hi Darlings! I’m so excited that you guys are out buying your fabrics and getting ready for class. Don’t worry if your pattern does not arrive on time or your fabric because the first lesson is about reading and understanding so you have at least one more week before we start cutting or sewing a thing. Today I am keeping it pretty simple with my sequin top from J. Crew; I got the top for my birthday in November and I had yet to wear it so I pulled it out and grabbed some jeans. The pumps I got at Steve Madden a few weeks ago because I didn’t have a red pair of closed toe pumps in my closet and wearing them today was just the pop I needed. I hope you guys are having a great week so far! J. Crew Sequin Top HERE / Gap Jeans HERE / Steve Madden Red Pumps HERE / Gap White Oxford HERE
