- DIY Eggshell Dress + Pattern Review V8706
Hi Darlings! I thought I would post a Flash Back Friday look. This pattern is one of my favorites and I have made it at least three times since purchasing the pattern 3 or 4 years ago. The original review is below along with original pics. The pattern is now OOP (out of print) V8706 but can still be purchased online and sometimes you may even find it in the pattern drawers at Joann’s. I used a lightweight Modal Knit which is just scrumptious. If you have never worked with an eco friendly, superior knit you must try it! I like it mostly because it has such a yummy hand and has great recovery. Pattern Description: V8706 Close-fitting, above mid-knee length, bias pullover dress has gathers, mock wrap front with asymmetrical seaming, piping at armholes and stitched hem. Fabric Used: Modal Knit HERE (use coupon code “MIMI10”) also avialable in several fab colors! Pattern Sizing: I cut the 6 because my fabric had a significant amount of give and even then I ended up taking it in a bit. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done with it? Yes Were the instructions easy to follow? For a Vogue pattern this was pretty quick to sew up, honestly I think I may have made it in just over an hour after cutting out the pieces. The only thing that could be confusing to some is the one piece facing but if you just follow the diagram you should be fine. I didn’t find it confusing but I have also sewn a considerable amount of Vogue patterns. The fabric is cut on the bias which I thought was interesting but it did allow, even with the stretch in my fabric, for the dress to pulled on and not need a zipper because the bias increases the give, that was a smart drafting choice for Vogue. If you are unfamiliar with Bias THREADS has a great article HERE What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love any dress that has gathering, lol it is just sew sexy and forgiving too. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn’t make any changes to it. Would you sew it again? I wont say no because I might make it in black just to have a casual go to LBD in my closet, you can never have too many. Would you recommend it to others? Yes

- DIY Candy Colored Striped Dress + Pattern Review V8901
Hi Darlings, here is a favorite #TBT dress I made about 2.5 years ago…I just bought some fabric to make this one again because I love it so much. Pattern Description: V8901 Dress has no side seams, close-fitting, lined bodice extending to side back, pleated skirt, side front seams, narrow hem, and invisible back zipper.. Fabric Used: Multi Colored Striped Rayon Blend. Pattern Sizing: I cut the 6 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done? Yeah I guess so. Were the instructions easy to follow? For a vogue pattern they were pretty standard and clear. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Well I liked the bodice and variations and I could see it being made severe different ways but I had a small piece of this striped fabric and so I thought I would use it as my wearable muslin. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Well….I attached the top to the skirt without trying it on (I know, crazy) and once I did try it on it was too big so I ripped it out and wrapped the sides a bit more until it fit ok and even then it was still loose around the waist which is how it was intended in the design of the dress but to me it just made my waist look wide so I belted the dress. Other then the above mentioned I didn’t do much else to it. Would you sew it again? No, I don’t think I need another one of these but I do recommend it.
- DIY Color-Blocked Dress + Pattern Review V1329
Hi Darlings! When this pattern came out I knew I wanted to make it especially since I am a Kay Unger fan but I just could not manage to get to it so when Michael Levine’s showed me this amazing fabric I knew EXACTLY how I would use it. The fabric is a double faced wool/knit blend meaning one side is this amazing PINK and the back is a bold RED which makes this gorgeous fabric so cool to use because I got a color-blocked dress from only one single fabric!! Dress DIY / Necklace F21 / Bangles J. Crew / Watch MK / Shoes Steve Madden (old) Pattern Description: V1329 Close-fitting, lined dress (fitted through hips) has yokes, right front with pleats, back princess seams, and invisible zipper. Fabric Used: Wool/Knit Blend Double Faced (Pink/Red) Item Number: ML#243635 available HERE Use MIMIJUNE10 at check out for 10% off your purchase. *note: the fabric comes in 2.5 Yard pieces and should be on the site shortly, it was just added today so check again this afternoon* Pattern Sizing: I cut the 8 but had to grade down about 1″ on both sides. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done? Yes Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes actually for a Vogue “Designer” pattern is was pretty straight forward. Not too many pieces and once the front and back are constructed it is easy to make fitting adjustments to the side seams (if not much is needed) without having to fuss to much. Also if you have never made a dress with a full lining this one is not that difficult to do. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the style and classic sheath feel and I love anything color-blocked so being able to make this dress from only one fabric was just icing on the cake. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Just took it in about 2″ total on the waist to hip but other then that it was a good fit. I wish I would have checked the length because I prefer this style dress to come to mid knee or below but it works 😉 Would you sew it again? No, I don’t think I need another one of these but I do recommend it. Inside: Full lining with a slinky knit in pink and red
