TBT Leather DIY Dress + Pattern Review V8766

Hi Darlings, I am back home…well for 10 days at least. Today’s #TBT post is of an all time favorite. I made this dress in 2013 from a tiny piece of metallic lambskin leather I had and a tiny bit of this floral stretch fabric. I remember not having enough so I made the entire back out of black stretch ponte, lol! It worked but it certainly was not on purpose at first. The leather on this is like butter and looks amazing, I tried to hunt some down for you but it’s been so long I couldn’t find anything even remotely close ;-( My pattern review of Vogue pattern 8766 is below for you, it’s a great pattern with options which is always a bonus.

Pattern Description: Misses Dresses V8766 Fabric Used: Metallic Genuine Leather (optional leather HERE) / Skirt Front: Floral Stretch Cotton / Back: Stretch Knit. (optional fabric HERE)

Pattern Sizing: For the bodice I cut the 6 and for the skirt I cut the 8 and graded at the waist. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done? Um I yeah Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, this is a very simple dress to make and I have made several strapless fitted sheaths so it was pretty standard for me. The instructions were clear and the boning is only added at the sides so it came together really quickly. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I knew in my head that dress had less to do with the pattern and everything to do with my fabric choices so the pattern just served as a basic dress pattern to work with. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added 3″ to the length so it would fall just below my knee.

Would you sew it again? I think I will make another view since I thought the pattern was pretty good and has options. Would you recommend it to others? Yep! but make sure to make a muslin if you don’t know your pattern sizing well. I had not used this specific pattern before so I did a quick muslin of the top just to avoid any issues with my leather since I did not have much of it.
