- #TBT Post Striped DIY Dress
Hi Darlings, I must admit that I am a big fan of “Throwback Thursdays” mainly because it gives me time to catch up on things while still posting for those who never saw the original post or are new to the blog. This dress was one of my favorite DIY’s, I made it a few years back using an old Butterick pattern which was a huge, matronly pattern that I ended up modifying so much I was better off drafting it from scratch. Now that I have the T-shirt Maxi Tutorial and the Fall Dress Tutorial you guys can make this fast and easy. The belt I believe was from Target and the wedges are Steve Madden. It was “cold” in Cali that day so I added a scarf LOL! Here in the Midwest that scarf would not have done a thing to add warmth. I hope you are enjoying your Thursday and I will see you guys tomorrow! - Oversized Sweater Love + Floral Tote
Hi Darlings! I’m on my way out the door to grab a bite with the family since the kitchen is still a mess. We have boxes, furniture, paint cans etc. all over the place. Thanks to the weather, I finally got to wear this sweater I bought last year in LA, but couldn’t wear it unless I wanted to be a walking sauna. I am excited at all the new clothes I get to make and wear now and how much I get to share with all of you. This week is a very busy week for me because I have several deadlines to meet, all of which are really important, and of course are all due at the same time that I am trying to get our home in order lol! I wouldn’t change it for the world….being busy is good and a blessing! I am also working on another tutorial that I hope to have for you next week. The floral tote I am carrying is my new obsession, she is just gorgeous! Dagne Dover sent me their floral mini tote and I am never putting her down. Okay I am going to put her down because I don’t carry the same bag every day, but she is a new favorite. The size of the bag is great for my iPad, planner, lipgloss, hard drive (yes, I never leave home without it) and a few other “must have with me” items like my secondary point and shoot. What I love most about the bag is how many organizing pockets it has. I like having a pocket for iPad and a sleeve for my water bottle or sunnies…It makes looking for things in my bag so much easier! #sweater #oversized #Jeans #florals #stevemadden

Hi Darlings! I hope you are having a glorious day. Today is another rainy cold day here in the midwest, and I LOVE it lol! - Leopard Utility Jacket + Jeans
Hi Darlings! I am so happy to say that we are almost…..almost done getting the house in order. I can’t wait to show you my new design studio/sewing palace, it is heavenly! I still have a few things to do but the hard part is done (organizing) and my closet is done too!!! I will show you pics and a video tour in few days. Today however I am so happy to be wearing something other than my paint sweats and T-shirt, lol! I actually wore clothes people could see me in! The hubby and I took a break on Saturday to see a friend perform at a local comedy club. It was the first time in weeks that we had left the house to go somewhere other than Lowe’s and Home Depot. I kept it casual because honesty half my clothes were still in boxes. I am hoping that by end of next week we will be done with all the major stuff and I can get back to my normal schedule. I do have some cool stuff coming up that I know you guys will love. Until tomorrow dolls. xoxo This jacket I got a few years back at Urban Outfitters (similar one) HERE /The Jeans are from the Gap / The scarf is a DIY / The bag is Coach from several seasons ago / Sneaker Wedges are from Aldo. #Jeans #leopard #utilityjacket #wedgesneakers
- The Goodwin Home Makeover: Bubby’s Room
Hi Darlings! I know I have been away but I am sure you can imagine how much we have had to do. Since relocating to the Midwest, one week yesterday, we have been going non-stop. I have a little bit of anxiety issue when things are not in order and I simply can’t function so my family understands that we need to get our home in order ASAP or mom is gonna freak out, LOL! We moved into a beautiful home, but there was so much to get done like repainting EVERY room, because the colors of the previous owners were not working for me at all. I also needed NEW carpet, so we have not had the furniture in the first level of the house brought in until the carpet was put down, which is actually happening now. The kids had full control over the decor of their rooms (well, I slightly directed them) but for the most part what they wanted, is what we gave them. The largest project of the house is the HUGE finished basement which is ALL mine!!! The lower level of the house is my new design space, filming studio, sewing space and I have a huge room for my closet. It’s so amazing and feels like I have my own apartment inside of our house, lol. There is a lot to get done downstairs but what I am most excited about is having so much more space to create and the ability to film in a dedicated area is going to make things so much easier. Since we have so much to do, including some home decor DIY projects I am going to share the house in phases and then do a final video tour. Today we will start with Bubby’s (that’s what we call him) room aka my prince! Here are some shots of his room and the hubby’s amazing paint job. Bubby and the hubby are big Husker fans, of course… so they decided on a red room with a white stripe and off to Lowe’s they went. The red color is Valspar “Art District” #ar226 it’s the perfect shade of red. The brightness is gorgeous, but it’s still deep and rich. It looks a little brighter in the pics because I took the shots with the sun working against me. The white stripe is Olympic “Snow Storm” #C30-2 The previous color was a strange mauve color that was pretty hard to cover so we used Olympic Paint + Primer Base Paint. Two coats of that and we were good to go. The quality of paint you use is crucial to the outcome but you don’t have to spend a ton of money. The paint ran us about $27 a gallon and we used 1 gallon of red and 1/2 gallon of white. Our son aka “My Prince” picked out his own bedspread, sheets, pillows and carpet, lol! He knew exactly what he wanted. The bedding collection is from Target, along with the lamp, carpet and alarm clock. I still have a little more to do in here, like adding shelves and ordering a few posters he requested. Other than the few things I have to do his room is pretty much done! Now I need to tackle my 11 year olds room aka “My Princess” which is going to be girly to the max (she tales after me) I hope you guys enjoy the pics and updates on the house and I will see you in a few days! thank you so much for your patience. #homedecor #lowes #painting #design #newhouse #makeover #target
- Vanity Fair Twitter Party
Hi Darlings, several months ago when I joined the Vanity Fair LiftTOUR I not only had the chance to be part of an amazing campaign , but I was also introduced to my new favorite bras. I can’t begin to tell you how little I really knew about the importance of a good fitting bra. Yes, I knew it was important, but it wasn’t until I was educated, during my visit to the LiftTour Bus in Los Angeles, and went home with several Vanity Fair bras that I could FEEL the difference. Vanity Fair has been in the support business with their lingerie for nearly 100 years and now they are taking the initiative to support women one step further! This year the Vanity Fair LiftTOUR bus will be driving across the country to conduct bra fittings. But the most exciting part of this initiative is their partnership with the organization Dress for Success, whose local affiliates will receive a new bra for every fitting that is conducted on the tour. This is a wonderful way to support women who need a little help as they take big steps towards change in their lives. Now you can participate by joining me @mimigstyle, @SITSGirls and @VF_Lingerie for a LIVE twitter chat on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7th Table of Contents Join Us For #WomenWhoDo Twitter Chat #WomenWhoDo Prizes RSVP HERE LIVE TWITTER CHAT HERE Join Us For #WomenWhoDo Twitter Chat Where: On Twitter, using the hashtag #WomenWhoDo Hosts: @SITSGirls and @VF_Lingerie When: Tuesday, October 7, 2014 8 – 9 a.m. PST / 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. CST Prizes: But of course! - #FBF DIY Dress + Pattern Review
Hi Darlings! I thought I would post a Flash Back Friday. This pattern is one of my favorites and I have made it at least three times since purchasing the pattern 3 or 4 years ago. The original review is below along with original pics. The pattern is now OOP (out of print) V8706 but can still be purchased online and sometimes you may even find it in the pattern drawers at Joann’s. I used a lightweight Modal Knit which is just scrumptious. If you have never worked with an eco friendly, superior knit you must try it! I like it mostly because it has such a yummy hand and has great recovery. Pattern Description: OOP V8706 Close-fitting, above mid-knee length, bias pullover dress has gathers, mock wrap front with asymmetrical seaming, piping at armholes and stitched hem. Fabric Used: Modal Knit HERE (use coupon code “MIMI10”) also available in several fab colors! Pattern Sizing: I cut the 6 because my fabric had a significant amount of give and even then I ended up taking it in a bit. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done with it? Yes Were the instructions easy to follow? For a Vogue pattern this was pretty quick to sew up, honestly I think I may have made it in just over an hour after cutting out the pieces. The only thing that could be confusing to some is the one piece facing but if you just follow the diagram you should be fine. I didn’t find it confusing but I have also sewn a considerable amount of Vogue patterns. The fabric is cut on the bias which I thought was interesting but it did allow, even with the stretch in my fabric, for the dress to pulled on and not need a zipper because the bias increases the give, that was a smart drafting choice for Vogue. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love any dress that has gathering, lol it is just sew sexy and forgiving too. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn’t make any changes to it but I did omit the piping, I did not like the way it looked after I did it. Would you sew it again? I wont say no because I might make it in black just to have a casual go to LBD in my closet, you can never have too many. Would you recommend it to others? Yes
- Goodwin’s Update
Hi Darlings, Well we made it to our new home and have been up to our eyeballs in painting, decorating and furniture buying. So far it’s been so good to be back in the Midwest. I just wanted to pop in and say hello! my office, studio and closet are all in shambles at the moment, so I am working hard to get things back in order so I can get to blogging.
