- My Classic Button-Down Shirt: Burda Pattern #7136
Hi Darlings! I just wanted to check in and show you the shirt I made and mentioned in the last post/tutorial I am almost done with it but realized that I didn’t have the correct size buttons so I need to pick those up and then give the shirt a final press. Actually, my husband will do the pressing because I can’t properly press a dress shirt to save my life, LOL! All of the seams are flat felled seams and the collar and cuffs were sewn by hand for a clean finish. It took me about 7 hours from start to finish and it fits just as I wanted. I’m so glad that yesterdays post was helpful for so many of you. xoxo Mimi G

- OOTD: DIY VaVaVoom Dress + Pattern Review Vogue 8787
Hi Darlings! I am keeping my post short today because I have so much I need to get done that I am about to lose my mind, lol. Now, about this dress, can I just say I love it so much. The dress is classic and fabulous and by the look of the pattern envelope picture you wouldn’t guess it is the same dress but it is. I leave you with the review and pics and Ill see you guys back here tomorrow for registration! Pattern Description: Misses Dress Vogue 8787 Lined dress has fitted bodice variations, midriff, tapered or flared skirt and back zipper. Pattern Sizing: I cut size 6 Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done with it? Yes Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they are pretty clear. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the neckline and although the image on the envelope is not that flattering I knew it just needed some tapering. Fabric Used: Ponte Roma $9.00 a yard HERE this ponte is silky soft! Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I just tapered the dress a bit and pegged it at the hem. I also lined it using my bag method instead of the way they have you do it in the pattern instructions. I lined it like a bag meaning I constructed the bodice and bodice lining and attached them to one another, then I attached the midriff section and midriff lining to the bodice and then attached the skirt to the midriff; once I did that I attached the skirt lining to the skirt at the HEM….yep the hem… I pulled the skirt up and attached the skirt lining at the waist to the midriff lining and finally I hand stitched the lining to the zipper. I could technically wear this dress inside out if I wanted too, LOL Would you sew it again? No, one of these is enough. Would you recommend it to others? Yes DIY Sheath Dress (similar) HERE or HERE / Nude + Black Cap Pumps HERE and on sale! ,
- #DIY Turtleneck Dress + Floral Velvet Shoes
Hi Darlings, so it turns out that the footage from the SD card is corrupted and not recoverable *insert hysterical crying here* but I did manage to go home on Tuesday, take a cat nap and start filming so you will have a new tut on Friday! This week I will also be creating the trim for my “chanel-esque” jacket by taking apart the fibers in the fabric and creating a braid of sorts, I did order some trim just in case the fibers start getting on my nerve, lol My turtleneck dress however was a breeze, the turtleneck I used to create the pattern didn’t have princess seams so I added them because I needed shaping and didn’t want to add darts. I drew my princess seam lines right on my turtleneck before cutting it apart (pic below) and then I just used those pieces to create the pattern on paper, added seam allowances and of course length to make it a dress. I also MUST say that THIS fabric may be my most favorite fabric to work with! it is such a yummy wool/rayon blend that will work for anything; dresses, skirts (pencil), jackets, sweaters it is so versatile and presses like a dream! I need more if it asap in every color and it’s only $15 a yard. - DIY MIXED PRINT DRESS USING MCCALL #7834
HI DARLINGS! Happy Monday my love’s. Today I am headed to the studio to record so I will be pretty busy all week creating new content. I have managed to get some DIY’s made this past week, if you are not subscribed to my YOUTUBE CHANNEL you may have missed my “SEWING PLANS” video and my “WATCH ME SEW” video on MCCALL #7834. I also did a MINI IRONING BOARD TUTORIAL which you should totally check out. This dress was a fun sew aside from all the gathering, lol. Once that’s done it’s easy sailing from there. I made the dress using a combination of my MIMI G FABRICS. The BLACK DOT can be found HERE and the GRAY can be found HERE. THE LOOK http://sewitacademy.com
- DIY MIXED PRINT DRESS AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
HI DARLINGS and HAPPY 42 BIRTHDAY TO ME! I posted a sneak peek of this dress as I was working on it on my IG and I couldn’t wait to share it. It’s totally part of this boho chic vibe I have been on, lol. The fabric mixing is so fun and one of the things I love to do. The large scale and small scale prints work great and have the same color theme running through both. The pattern is MCCALL 7834 and I can tell you now as much as I love it I will probably not make it again, lol the amount of gathering is insane and even with a gathering foot it’s just a lot so I will need to make sure I am in the right frame of mind when I decided I need another one of these. The FABRIC is from JOANN (not online) but you may want to visit your local store, it is so worth it! I wore my dress with a leopard belt for fun and to break up the print and some chunky heels for height, lol I am after all only 5’4″ and need all the help I can get when wearing maxi-length dresses. Ok, I’m keeping this short and running off to enjoy my day!
- OOTD: MAXI SWEATER DRESS AND CAMO JACKET
HI DARLINGS! I am gearing up for an intense four days of non-stop work before I leave town. I am traveling most of November because that is how I celebrate my birthday, lol but before I can leave I need to get so much done. I have some DIY’s for you guys while I am gone but for today we are rocking a FOREVER 21 look. This jacket is old and I think I got it at H&M so I am not sure you could still find it but here are some similar jackets HERE and HERE. You could DIY this by using a bomber jacket pattern, it wouldn’t be too hard to modify. The dress is a recent purchase but I couldn’t find it online. I did find some options HERE, HERE and HERE. The booties are from STEVE MADDEN and you have seen them a ton of times on the blog cuz they are old and I have worn them a lot, lol.
- DIY LITTLE RED DRESS USING VOGUE 1595
HI DARLINGS! I am about to burst with excitement because I am heading on a secret trip in a few days and although I can’t share right this minute I will definitely post about it soon. It’s hard to concentrate on work but I did manage to get some pics taken before I leave. One of the looks I managed to photograph was of this great red knit dress. Details on the pattern and fabric below. PATTERN INFO & MODIFICATIONS This is V1595 and I am here for it. It’s a great knit dress with a lining and front pleat which creates a great front detail. I used a red double knit fabric and a red tricot lining. The pattern is pretty straightforward and came together rather quickly. I plan to make it again for sure!
- DIY KNIT DRESS USING VOGUE 1584
HI DARLINGS! Well by the time this post publishes I will be in I am in Puerto Rico and loving every minute. I can’t wait to share pics and tell you all about my trip. I manage to photograph before leaving so I could share this great dress. I have been looking to make VOGUe 1584 for a long time now and finally got around to it. I used this great ITY knit from Joann Fabrics. The colors are so great and vibrant that I couldn’t resist. I plan to make it again in a solid and longer length. I am actually getting ready to pack after I finish typing this blog post up so I am keeping it short and sweet. This pattern is a quick sew and has a side zipper which I loved. Since there is a seam at the waistline you can just pull it on but adding the zipper to the back would have been weird considering the shape of the bodice. Well I am off to enjoy myself!
