- Pattern & Fabric Winner!!! + I Have A Boo Boo
Hi Darlings! First the WINNER of the pattern and fabric is….. MELISSA WARD…make sure to email me with your address so I can get this out to you asap! I wish I could send all of you a pattern and fabric. *the winners are chosen randomly by number* Now….I have been having a lot of wrist pain lately and yesterday I went to the doc and they suspect I may have Carpal Tunnel…Booooo I am hoping it is just inflammation so the doc has me in a brace and meds for 1 week to evaluate it and if the pain goes away after resting my wrist then it is just inflamed but if not then I will need to go back for X-rays. She also put me on “Work With Limitations” which means I am only allowed to type for no more then 30 min a day only if I have to….Boooo so as you can imagine there will be a little less blogging next week. I hope you guys have a great weekend ad I’ll talk to you guys next week! xoxo Mimi G

- OOTD: DIY Pants + Pattern Review Butterick 5895
Hi Darlings! So….remember when I made my Black & White Floral Riding Jacket worn HERE? well I had just over a yard of that amazing fabric left and so I decided to put it to good use and make some pants from a pattern I had been meaning to try anyway… Butterick 5895 Pattern Description: Semi-fitted, tapered jeans (rolled-up, wrong side shows) have waistband, side front pockets, stitched hems, and back zipper. Fabric Used: Floral Textured Knit found HERE and make sure to use the code “MIMIMAY10” Pattern Sizing: I cut the 6 Were the instructions easy to follow? The pattern instructions are well written and pretty basic when it comes to construction, I did not use them but I did read them. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Well I love a high waist pant and and when I saw Gertie’s pattern I knew I was going to give it try but with some changes. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I omitted the pockets because I wanted a very flat and smooth front and I didn’t think the pockets worked well with this fabric. I also was not planning on wearing them rolled up so I added 2″ to the length but now after making them I think I should have added 3-4″ to the length because the pattern is intended to be worn above the calf. Would you sew it again? Yes, I plan to make them in a stretch denim. F21 Necklace + NY & Co. - Ad Space: Sidebar Real Estate
Hi Dolls! Really quick before I forget again, I am getting a lot of emails regarding the sidebar of my blog so I am going to answer the main questions here because if you have tried you know I don’t allow just anyone and paying for the ad space is the first but least important requirement. 1. How do I get on your sidebar? You must have a business that falls directly in line with what the blog is about (sewing, retail, jewelry etc) BUT must be an established business with a good reputation and I MUST have used your product before. I try to stay as genuine as possible to my readers so I only place ads of those brands I have personal experience with. 2. How often do you allow new advertisers? I do a check every 6 months and will rotate one or two new ones on to the sidebar. I keep only a few because that is not what the blog is about and if it is not something that can benefit my readers it just wont fit. 3. How do I submit? You can email me HERE with your business info, website, description etc. and if I don’t already use your product I must review it first (terms apply) and then we go from there. One Space Available I have room for just ONE more advertiser this year. I wont be allowing any further ads until the end of November so if you want to send me your submission now is the time and I will be choosing the first week of June. xoxo mimi G

- DIY Chevron Print Dress + Pattern Review of V8898 View B
Hi Darlings! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and took good care of the mommies in your lives. I had a wonderful weekend and even took time for an afternoon nap which I haven’t done in ages! it felt so good. Todays review is of #8898 a recent pattern from Vogue Patterns which is listed as a Loose-fitting, pullover dress has right shoulder pleats forming drape, and narrow hem. Self belt, & C. has right side opening. I loved this pattern as soon as I saw it, it looked chic and comfy which is always a win/win and the fabric I planned to use was going to work nicely because there were minimal seam lines in the pattern. This Chevron Knit was in my stash already; it is a great lightweight sweater knit that flows and drapes really well and…it’s only $5.00 a yard! I also would love to make this in this Leopard Print I didnt make any modifications to this pattern but I did make sure to cut the XS because I knew having to much drape gathered under the arm and at the hip could cause issues since I planned to wear as seen in view B. The XS was perfect because it was still loose fitting and the draping is comfy and feel very natural. What I loved most about this pattern is that it took me less then an hour from start to finish including cutting time and it is super easy to sew, you only need to some quick pleats at the shoulder and sew up and down the sides. I used bias binding for my neck and armhole because it’s a nice and clean finish. I never just fold over 5/8″ on curves. shoes from DSW (similar) HERE
- DIY Striped Peplum Top & Skirt + Pattern Review M6754 View C
Hi Darlings! Today’s review is of this really great peplum top/dress pattern from McCalls most recent collection. What I liked immediately was how they played with the striped fabric in the sketch to create more interest in a chevron pattern so I grabbed this gorgeous emerald and navy striped knit and cut out top, when I was done I had enough to make a pencil skirt (my 15 min. pencil skirt tutorial can be found HERE) and when I put them both on I loved that it kinda looks like a dress but can be worn separately. Pattern Description: M6754 Fabric Used: Striped Knit found HERE remember to use the coupon code: MIMIMAY10 Pattern Sizing: I cut the XS Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done? Yes Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn’t use them but I did read them for the sake of review and they were good, the pattern pieces have grain lines to help you place your pattern pieces on the stripes properly. Just remember to cut one piece at a time so you can align the stripes properly. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I love peplums and using the stripes to create a pattern makes it fun. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? The sleeves are ridiculously wide and unflattering the way the pattern is cut, there is way too much ease so I pinched out almost 2 full inches to get a more flattering sleeve. Would you sew it again? I might. Would you recommend it to others? Yes, its a great little peplum and I think I will try the dress too. DIY Top and Skirt / Necklaces F21 (old) / J.
