I'm 70 years old. When about 8-9 yrs old my grandmother, who was a tailor/seamstress/patternmaker, started teaching me her trade. She would measure a person, grab some brown paper or newspaper and make a pattern for the person from a picture! I was so impressed by her skill. She also taught me to crochet and she had a monthly quilt-making event for the women in the community or surrounding communities. She was an awesome person that showed love and concern for people. Anyway, my grandparents raised me on a farm and when I got to be about 17 years old I tired of the country. I learned of my mother and siblings and moved to the city closer to them. I got involved in other things and left all the skills my grandmother instilled in me. Young and stupid me! After marriage, 2 kids, and a car accident that took 2 years to mend, I started to thinking about sewing. I purchased a basic Singer and rekindled my sewing. But instead of crocheting, I started doing macrame. Doing macrame brought money into the home and didn't take as much of my time to produce. So I had another turn of events that took me away from sewing for about 36 yrs. About 4 years ago I got the urge to get back to sewing. And, now I'm back. I joined PMA from it's inception and really enjoy what I'm learning. There is so much inspiration here. I appreciate all of MiMi's energy to teach and inspire.
