My 3 Essential Tips When Buying A New Home
Hi Darlings, Making the decision to relocate from the West Coast to Mid West was a huge decision, but deciding to buy a new home in another state made that decision even more complicated. We had been spending so much time flying to the other coast that it just made sense to be closer to our families and where we conducted most of our business. When we decided on Nebraska we began making a list of all the things we would need to do in order to make this process as stress free as possible.
Tip #1 Make a list of all the things you want and don’t want in your new home. There are so many things that go into the purchase of a home that I felt a bit overwhelmed, so I made a list. Having my list handy gave me a clear idea of what I wanted and what I knew were deal breakers. I started by looking online for homes that I thought fit our family and could possibly want to purchase. As you all know I am a “do it yourself” kinda girl so I immediately went online and started pulling up homes to show the hubby. Soon after I started I realized I was going to need help! Not only was it difficult to look for a home that we loved but being on the West Coast searching in the Midwest was much harder than I thought it would be.
Tip #2 Know your limitations and hire a professional. The next call we made was to a real estate agent that was recommended to us by friends. I had never worked with a realtor before so this was a new experience for me, now I realize it was the best decision we made. Having experts on hand to help us through the process of purchasing a home was crucial. Once we got on the phone with the real estate agent and went through our list of “we need 5 bedrooms, a finished basement, a deck, we want to live on the golf course, the schools must be great, there has to be a mall near by” (LOL, okay I didn’t tell him that but I thought it) I felt as if now there was someone better qualified to look for what we needed. After just a few days our realtor had sent over homes for us to look.. Once we had set up the viewings we booked our tickets and flew in for the weekend.
Tip #3 Take time to read the contracts and don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something. It took us a just a few days to narrow down the homes to our first choice and then an entire new list of experts were needed. There was so much to read and sign that after going through inspections, paperwork, negotiations, insurance, contractors, etc. we were so thankful that we had the right people on hand to get us through each new step. I made sure to ask questions if I didn’t understand something I was reading or just needed a little more clarity.
The day we moved into our new home was a day we will never forget, and I am so glad we had the foresight to get the help we needed from qualified professionals. We could not be happier!
